Position OverviewThe Maintenance Worker primarily provides maintenance support at the Sarnia Library including its property, grounds and associated equipment within the facility, in cooperation with the property owner, the City of Sarnia.
The Maintenance Worker provides light maintenance and may participate in renovation/maintenance projects at any Cultural Services Division facility as required.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance:
- Maintain the Sarnia Library including the Sarnia Library Theatre
- Secure the Sarnia Library at opening and closing
- Be available to complete emergency facility maintenance on a callin basis after hours
- Assist in the general maintenance of the building including minor repairs to plumbing, heating, lights, locks, furniture, etc.
- Scrub the floors
- Set up meeting rooms and the theatre ensuring the area(s) are set up and equipment is in place for the appropriate event
- Provide necessary snow clearing and other grounds keeping duties including tidying the immediate external environment, assisting in landscaping needs, etc.
- Participate in the renovation of workspaces including the removal / installation of shelving, workstations, furnishings, etc.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure that all consultants and contractors retained under contracts and agreements administered by the Department are in compliance with the County's Contractor H&S policy as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
- Keep current and up to date with all requirements and provisions contained in the County's Health and Safety Policies. Participate in employee health and safety training activities as required
Customer Service / Communication Responsibilities:
- Represent the library effectively in the community
- Interact pleasantly and courteously with the public, community partners and staff, promoting a harmonious workplace
- May be required to travel to various facilities for purposes of employment.
General:
- Incumbents must keep uptodate on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Qualifications:
Minimum Formal Education:
- Secondary school diploma
- Certification as a Building Environmental Systems Operator, Class 2
Experience:
- 6 months to 1 year experience in a maintenance role or equivalent
- Incumbents must have a basic understanding and ability to assess HVAC systems and provide troubleshooting, along with a basic understanding of building systems and operations including lighting, HVAC and construction
- Incumbents must have a solid understanding of new media, lighting, sound and equipment and new technologies related to the operation of the Sarnia Library Theatre. Incumbents must also have a good understanding of computer equipment and software packages to serve the clients of the theatre
