The Opportunity:
Under the supervision of, and with training and support from the Program Coordinator, Home Visitor provides the HIPPY program to mothers and help them to teach their 3-5-year-old child and prepare them for school; and also develop their own career plan to prepare for future employment and/or educational opportunities after she leaves the program.
The Key Areas of Responsiblity are:
- Executing the evidence-based early literacy curriculum with their HIPPY child
- Making weekly visits (make up visits, if necessary) to participating families for the purpose of roleplaying activity packets
- Participation in the planning and execution of group meetings, which includes roleplaying the subsequent week's activity packet and the provision of an enrichment activity
- In Home client visits, ski
- Refers families to other support programs and services, as needed
- Participation in weekly inservice training and other staff development activities and (such as role play activities, responsive communication, handling interpersonal conflict) for the transition to future employment planning
- Keeping the Training Coordinator/Manager abreast of child/family progress and familial issues and concerns as they arise
- Ability to work independently with mínimal Supervision
- Collaborates with the Training Coordinator to support families' career exploration through job skills development, interview preparation, and more.
- Timely completion and submission of required reports and other documentation as required by the HIPPY Office and/or MMC
- Participation in all sponsored HIPPY activities (i.e., field trips, graduations, awards ceremonies, etc.)
- Participation in departmentbased activities, as needed
- Assist in maintaining an efficient record keeping system of program operations and participating families by entering data into the ETO system.
- High school diploma and a minimum of 1 year experience within HIPPY / SMART program or similar curriculum
- First Aid Level 1 Certification
- Eligible for participation in the HIPPY program including lived and living experience as a newcomer
- A parent of a three or fouryearold
- A resident of the targeted community
- Ownership of a vehicle or access to public transportation (if needed)
- Good (functional) oral and written communication skills, including good reading skills
- Professional level fluency in oral and written English and in either one of the following: Arabic, Farsi, Tigrinya, and Spanish.
- Good computer skills
- Good organizational skills and the ability to be task oriented
- Ability to adhere to schedules and specific timetables
- Demonstrated potential leadership abilities
- Demonstrated emotional maturity and sensitivity to the needs and interests of the targeted community
Please note:
Each Home Visitor is hired in this position for a term of up to a maximum of three (3) years.
