Position Overview:


Reporting directly to the Apprenticeship Manager, this position is responsible for the organization and implementation of Finning (Canada) Apprenticeship and the post-secondary Think BIG program.


Job Description:


  • Monitor and coordinate individual progression, providing guidance to apprentices throughout the completion of Journeyperson status (35%)
  • Monitor apprentice pay rate increases, processing apprentice pay increases in compliance with provincial standards and in a timely manner to ensure employer government's responsibilities are met.
  • Assist employees on level and Red Seal exam challenges.
  • Work with approximately 25 training providers in various regions for apprentice registrations, attendance, exam results and tuition payments. Recording results & learning path.
  • Responsible for monitoring and approving expenses related to materials and travel, in accordance with the respective collective agreements. Create invoices and purchase orders for external vendors and collaborate with our accounts payable/receivable team to ensure accurate reconciliation
  • Schedule and regulate the ThinkBIG program administration process: (35%)
  • Participate in recruitment and interview process (DAT testing and interview scheduling in various regions) with Finning's HR department.
  • Manage work placements scheduling with GPRC, Operations, LR and students.
  • Relocation of upwards of 72 students in Workday every 8 weeks updating physical location and wages.
  • Provide updates to the payroll, benefit and time management teams. Coordinate the New Hire Orientation, camp accommodations and OSSA training. Responsible for tuition, PDA and exam fee payment to GPRC and the Alberta Government. Organize multiple class graduations yearly.
  • Monitor students travel expenses, hour reporting and collection of evaluations.
  • Marketing of Finning's Apprenticeship Programs through various provincial Skills competitions and career fairs.
  • Manage the Apprenticeship Programs in assigned provincial (YK, BC, NT, AB, SK) regions. (15%)
  • Establish the individual government apprenticeship contracts.
  • Liaison between Finning management and Government Apprenticeship Industry Authority ensuring work experience updates are reported quarterly.
  • Advise the Recruitment Team on provincial ticket assessments for all new trades related to apprenticeship and ticketed Journeyman new hires.
  • Support Finning's Labour Relations and HR teams regarding apprenticeship progression.
  • Accountable for processing the monthly apprenticeship and technical training reimbursements to facilities for technician & apprentice's wages and travel while attending technical training. (15%)
  • Reconcile Think BIG student and Women Building Futures (WBF) credits.
  • Collection of information on employees in the various provincial apprenticeship programs for the purposes of determining tax credits for the income tax return in collaboration with the tax department.
  • Provide accurate reporting on all Finning (Canada's) trades demographic, diversity and apprenticeship completion rates.

Education & Experience:

  • Three to five years' experience in a related field
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to influence and gain support from others
  • Time management, prioritization, and independent problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and attention to detail
  • Familiar with internal learning management (LMS), Kronos, Workday, Infor and On-Demand
