    Engineer - Toronto, Canada - TORONTO HYDRO

    WORK ILLUSTRATION:

    Reporting to the Supervisor in Investment Planning, the Engineer provides a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Engineer is accountable and legally responsible for personal drawings, calculations, documents and the work of others for which the Engineer has signed.

    The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs analysis, testing and evaluations.
  • Provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices.
  • Lead initiatives in short- and long-range strategic planning
  • Own and lead capital portfolio business case development and approvals
  • Ability to independently make decisions in responding to emerging operational needs such as system contingencies, customer connections, major external projects etc.
  • Accountable for the timely, technically accurate and cost-effective application of engineering practices.
  • Compares alternatives based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimum solution.
  • Undertakes special investigation and studies, and prepares reports with recommendations.
  • Prepares material and/or technical specifications and standards; reviews proposals from suppliers, contractors and consultants for technical merit and compliance; investigates and evaluates the application of new technologies.
  • Participates in implementing corporate goals.
  • Represents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees.
  • Performs root cause analyses of failure data.
  • Performs trend analyses of equipment data and determines appropriate actions to improve and optimize capital and operations programs.
  • REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • 4+ years of Engineering experience
  • G class license preferred
  • Fluent in the application of enterprise tools for planning and project estimation (i.e. GEAR, SAP, etc), general office software, CAD, AM/FM, engineering records, and specialized engineering application software.
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering an asset
  • Project Management experience with good knowledge of planning processes is an asset
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change demonstrated through self-motivation and Stakeholdering
  • Internal and external Customer focused with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate relationship building
  • Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements.
  • Proven effective problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrates commitment to environment, health and safety.
  • Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
