Reporting to the National Director of Business Development and Sustainability, the
Regional Business Development and Sustainability Specialist is responsible for developing and executing strategies to enhance donor retention and stewardship, overseeing communication, building strong relationships with donors, and providing support for internal and external partners with a strong emphasis on efficiency, organization, operational protocols, and superior customer service in their designated region.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:


1.


Business Development:


  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance donor retention and stewardship.
  • Highlight department areas of improvement and share recommendations for better efficiency, best practices, and performance outcomes.
  • Monitor donor leads and referrals ensuring all potential partners are communicated with and offered best customer service.
  • Support and investigate new business opportunities and avenues to expand partnerships regionally.

Administrative and Communication:


  • Prepare and process documentation for donors; including charitable tax receipts, acknowledgment of donation receipts, and formal thank you letters.
  • Ensure databases are maintained with current information and kept in the same consistent format.

To include, but not limited to:
Drive Events, Business Donation Database, Walmart Report & Connections, Municipal Reporting, and department calendars.

Sustainability Strategy:


  • Work in conjunction with director engaging federal and provincial leads and industry associations to support advocacy initiatives to increase donations within your region.
  • Analyze corporate donations and provide sustainability reports to strengthen partnerships.
  • Work with academic and innovation partners to highlight sustainable impact of donations and life extension through reuse.

  • Distribution & Recycling Centre Managers, Supervisors, and Coordinators
  • Business Development & Sustainability Department
  • Marketing & Communications Department

  • The Salvation Army Thrift Store Managers and Team
  • Corps Stores

External:


  • Corporate and large donors
  • Charities, other nonprofits, and partners
  • Municipal Partners

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:


  • Reports directly to: National Director Business Development and Sustainability.
  • Direct reports for this position: None.
  • Provides technical leadership and major gift expertise.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:


  • Minor material responsibilities.
  • Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
  • May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.
  • Some input to annual budget or revenue projections pertaining to own job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Be willing to work flexible hours to meet business requirements and community involvement.
  • Working environment is typically remote work and in office.
  • Occasional travel is associated with this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:


Education, Qualifications and Certifications

  • Completion of a formal college/University program of three academic years in Business Administration, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, Donor Relations or other related fields
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Supply Chain Management will be considered a strong asset.
  • Alternate combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Proven experience to successfully plan, organization and manage a relationshipbased program.
  • Experience working with a donor database management system (specifically Raisers Edge) is an asset.
  • Handson experience with data entry.

Skill and Capabilities

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Understanding and adherence to Imagine Canada Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code of Ethics, Policies
