This seasonal employment will begin late Spring and wind down in September with the possibility of continued employment. This assignment is day shift to support the work or our exterior paint program.

Your Work

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Designate, you will be responsible for the painting and maintenance of schools and sites around the district.

Prepares, mixes, and applies paint, stain, varnish, etc., lacquer and applies fabric or wallcover relative to construction, renovation and maintenance of buildings, grounds, ancillary equipment, and furniture.
Prepares surfaces for painting, varnishing, staining and lacquering or wall coverings/finishes from drawings, work sketches and specifications.
Performs duties from scaffolds, ladders, and hydraulic lifts, ladders, operates spraying equipment, and installs, fills, tapes and finishes drywall.
Prepares cost estimates, orders materials and maintains records of colour formulas by site.
Measures and prepares graphics, line, stripes, etc.
Consults with staff regarding scheduling of work and colours selected.
Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate.
May, on occasion, be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Your Education and Experience

High school graduation or the equivalent
Successful completion of the
B.C. Apprenticeship Program and a valid B.C.

Trade Certification as a Painter:

Two years related experience at the journeyman level
Physical capability to perform the job duties
Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License
Competent in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this trade
Ability to make some repairs to equipment
