The Tŝilhqot'in National Government (TNG), is the official First Nations government serving the Tŝilhqot'in Nation. TNG is located in Williams Lake, British Columbia and serves six communities which include ʔEsdilagh, Tŝideldel, Yunesit'in, Tl'etinqox, Xeni Gwet'in, and Tl'esqox.

The Tŝilqhot'in National Government (TNG) is seeking one full time Access Management Habitat Biologist. This person will lead TNGs access management initiatives across the Territory for the six Tŝilhqot'in communities including within the mountain caribou range. The focus is on linear features restoration, mainly roads, to meet the Nations goals and objectives around road densities and restoration for both habitat and wildlife population improvement. The biologist could also be involved with habitat restoration and enhancement work.

The majority of the field work that would occur will be completed within the Chilcotin West of the Fraser River which is a diverse area of the province. This area of the province is home to a significant number of wildlife species in the province and their associated habitats. Habitats range from sagebrush canyons along the Fraser River, which even includes sand dunes, to grasslands and from the forested plateau to the mountain alpines with various wetlands and salmon bearing rivers. Roads, trails, and fences are found throughout these habitats in varying states of use and upkeep. The Chilcotin is a great area for those interested in working for the Tŝilhqot'in National Government with habitat restoration, enhancement and recovery, focused on but not limited to access management. The position would include a mix of field and office work to move the projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

• Assessments of linear feature status, focused on roads.
• Lead engagement for priority roads/features with Tŝilhqot'in communities, BC Government and stakeholders.
• Develop the access management strategy to determine the goals, objectives, priorities, plans and strategies at the Nation level.
• Proposal, permit and other paperwork completion and submissions for projects.
• Creating and implementing contracts for restoration work.
• Supervising restoration work including various contract crews.
• Data collection and analysis focused on linear feature projects including trail cameras and their cataloging.
• Assist with other Stewardship initiatives as available and required, such as, habitat restoration/enhancement projects and wildlife collar mortality investigations.

The ideal candidate will have or be working to achieve the below criteria:

• Designation as a R.P.Bio. within 6 months.
• Experience working with and for First Nations communities.
• Experience managing road restoration works including the planning and permitting phase in BC.
• Experience developing management plans including Nation level goals and objectives.
• Capability to manage and balance numerous projects with varying priority levels simultaneously including habitat restoration and enhancement.
• Ability to work in remote locations including overnighting in community to attend various meetings, field work, and supervision of restoration work and working in bear country.
• Experience working with wildlife friendly fencing.
• Use of various technology including; drones, trail cameras, SPOT device, iPads, side by sides or other outdoor focused technology.

• Travel will be required.
• Ability to attend and conduct presentations with First Nations and other organizations.
• Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
• Overtime as required.
• Lifting or moving up to 50lbs may be required.
