Community Relations Specialist (Out of Scope)

Position Summary:


The Community Relations Specialist is an exciting opportunity within TELUS World of Science - Edmonton's (TWOSE) Government and Community Relations Team.

Reporting to the Director, New Initiatives and Building Operations, the Community Relations Specialist, will be responsible for identifying, building, and maintaining strong relationships between our organization and the communities in which we operate.

In collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, this role will lead our vision for our 40 Anniversary year goals for the organization.


The Community Relations Specialist develops and maintains connections with Edmonton, surrounding organizations, external stakeholders to align development and relations to community needs while furthering the organization's Mission and Strategic Plan.

This role will also be responsible for identifying opportunities to engage all three orders of government.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Strategy and Sustainability

  • In collaboration with the Director, Marketing & Communications, develop and implement the overall strategic plan for the Science Centre's 40th Anniversary, including volunteer and community engagement opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Manager, Community Relations and members of the Government and Community Relations team to integrate fundraising opportunities into the wider anniversary celebrations.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to create content, talking points, and key communication milestones for the anniversary celebrations.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for celebration committees.
  • Identify and implement a 12month government relations strategy for all three orders of government.

Stakeholder Relations:


  • Develop and maintain collaborative and accountable working relations with internal TWOSE colleagues to strengthen communication flow, achieve team objectives and increase crossdepartment understanding
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team, Leadership and Government and Relations Colleagues to ensure wellprepared, welladvertised and successful events
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager, Indigenous Initiatives and team regarding celebrations involving the Indigenous Community

Community Outreach and Relationship Building

  • Serve as an ambassador for TWOSE in building and sustaining relationships with community members, other organizations, and other key stakeholders to support the organizations mission and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to promote internal and external events
  • Identify and pursue partnership opportunities within the community to enhance awareness and support for the organization.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify emerging community needs, trends, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Plan and execute community outreach activities, such as presentations, workshops, and networking events, to raise awareness of the organization and its programs.

Data Analysis:


  • Collect and analyse data on community feedback and sentiment to inform decisionmaking.
  • Prepare reports on community relations efforts and their impact.

Qualifications:


Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Exceptional relationship building skills and practices with the ability to lead and influence others.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to effectively handle diverse key stakeholder interests and manage multiple accounts and projects simultaneously
  • Working knowledge of budgets, expense processes and financial negotiations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to make strong and compelling presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; open, approachable, tactful and politically sensitive.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and Raiser's Edge database management.

Education and Experience:

  • Related university degree, college diploma, or certification or a combination of equivalent skills and experience.
  • Knowledge of all three order
