Substance Use and Addiction Program (SUAP) Sup. (2 years Contract)


For almost 50 years Nellie's has been providing shelter and support for marginalized women and their children in the Greater Toronto Area.

We are mandated to operate programs and services for women and children who had or are experiencing violence, poverty, and homelessness.

Nellie's works to lessen homeless for women and their children whether the cause is family violence, mental health, or any other reason that results in dealing with the impact from trauma.

In addition to providing shelter, our programs are designed to reduce the isolation that often comes with abuse.


Nellie's is currently seeking a Two (2) Years Contract Substance Use and Addiction Program (SUAP) Supervisor, reporting to the Program Director.

Substance Use and Addiction Program (SUAP) is a project to increase knowledge for members of the Violence Against Women Network (VAWN) on how to better serve and implement components to support harm reduction in the violence against women (VAW) shelters.


This position will provide members of the VAWN additional capacity to implement harm reduction supports within their facilities and oversee the development, outreach, implementation and the facilitation of standardized harm reduction training for shelter frontline staff and food service staff.

JOB SUMMARY/DESCRIPTION

Development, Outreach, & Implementation

  • Working with the Executive Director and Program Director, assists in the development of SUAP Program
  • Perform the needs assessments to evaluate the policies & operations within a harm reduction, intersectional, AR/AO gender based analysis. Individualized report with recommendations provided to each organization
  • Collaborate with the VAWN Coordinator and Harm Reduction Committee as appropriate
  • Develop and Perform Needs Assessment in all 14 VAW Shelters in the GTA
  • Work with Lived Experienced Workers (LEW) to develop the work, parametres, incorporate lived experience perspective, conduct research on policies and procedures for the needs assessment and reports
  • Develop a trauma informed & gender based training on Harm Reduction principles in context to female identifying clients experiencing violence & abuse
  • Develop a tool that staff and clients can access to determine levels of Harm Reduction supports base on indivdual needs
  • Provide program and service information as per reporting compliance
  • Monitor, manage and respond to stakeholders and inquiries
  • Draft reports to funders as needed
Supervisory Support to Staff Team

  • Train and supervision of new employee, placement student and volunteer orientations
  • Provide support & training opportunities to the staff team
  • Conduct regular staff supervision, annual performance evaluation, and develop annual learning goal for all program staff
  • Provide guidance and support to staff, volunteers and placement students
  • Establish good communication system between management and staff team
  • Assist in the development of a professional growth and development program
  • Facilitation of mediation between staff
Community Presentation & Reporting

  • Share progress and finding to VAWN Harm Reduction Committee and other community partners as needed
  • Development of evaluation tools aimed at measuring the impact of the needs assessment on shelter operations & policies. Measure increase service enhancement in HR for clients, the change in knowledge of staff, etc
  • A final report with findings, level of impact and satisfaction for shelter, staff and clients, lessons learned, how this project can be replicated in other communities.
Administrative Support

  • Provide assistance with preparation of correspondence, documents, reports and minutes
  • Support and review program budget
  • Ensure program statistics are prepared and submitted to Program Director or her designate on a monthly basis
  • Maintain good operational systems to keep track of program supports, activities and stats.
Human Resources

  • Assist in the hiring of a wellness coordinator and lived experienced worker
  • Approve staff's timecards and other time off requests on ADP
Other

  • Complete other duties as directed by the Program Director or her designate
  • Liaison and networking with community groups
  • Willing to travel across the GTA

QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and/or equivalent experience and Registered with the College of Social Services and Social Workers
  • Experience and commitment to harm reduction is a requirement
  • At least 2 years of experience in supervising staff
