- Follow all company policies and procedures
- Promote safety in the workplace
- Prepare and communicate weekly mine plans and schedules
- Conduct daily pit tours to ensure compliance to plan
- Communicate daily plans to Supervisors and Surveyors
- Design drill and blast patterns
- Monitor drill and blast performance and identify areas for improvements
- Develop long term mine plans and schedules
- Support in preparing annual budget for Mine Operations
- Maintain up to date pit and waste dump designs
- Track and analyze production data, provide recommendations on how to improve performance
- Manage various construction projects on site related to mining
- Monitor costs and ensure projects are being executed on time and within budget
- Play a major role in the development of planning and reporting systems
- Undertake regular audits and inspections as required
- Prepare technical reports relating to mine plans and performance
- Other duties and tasks as required
Experience & Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering
- Registered with PEGNL, or eligible to register
- 5+ years of experience in open pit mining
- Valid Class 5 drivers license
- Advanced level of expertise in mine planning software. Experience with MinePlan considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. French considered an asset
Technical Competencies & Skills - Must be able to work 12 hour day and night shifts for 14 to 21 days at a time
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated and ability to tasks with little supervision
- Excellent safety and attendance record
- Must be able to work in a remote environment in all weather conditions
- Must be dependable and ensure deadlines are met
- Excellent time management and decision making skills
- Ability to adapt to changing plans in a fast paced environment
- Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development

The opportunity
We are currently seeking a Mine Planning Engineer to join our highly skilled team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off with a standard 12 hours/day schedule, to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long.
The main pick-up points are St. John's, Gander, Deer Lake in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal, QC.
Reporting to the Manager - Mining Operations, the Mine Planning Engineer will be supporting Mine Operations in all aspects of mining. The position incumbent will coordinate with drill and blast contractors, operations personnel, surveyors, and other engineers to ensure the safe and efficient production from the various pits in operation.
This role is expected to work in both an office environment at site as well as field work in collaboration with multiple departments to achieve goals.
