Camps at Appleby College provide coeducational opportunities to develop and advance skills, and to promote interactive skills among participants. Appleby provides excellence within each camp through the use of superb facilities and instruction.

As the Inclusion Facilitator, you will be responsible for providing support to the Head Instructor, as well as Instructors, Level I & II, within a specific camp program.

The Inclusion Facilitator will provide inclusion support to campers with special needs.

The Inclusion Facilitator works as part of a team to ensure a safe, productive and enjoyable experience for all campers.


Specific Accountabilities:


  • Provide support to the Instructors, helping to ensure that camp activities are inclusive to all participants
  • Supervise assigned camper(s), learning their name(s) on the first day, and knowing their whereabouts at all times
  • Foster a sense of community within assigned camper group where individuals care for/are mindful of one another
  • Provide 1to1, or 1to2 inclusion support to campers with special needs
  • Create programming to integrate campers with special needs into camp activities
  • Communicate regularly with parents of assigned camper providing regular feedback about camper's experience at camp
  • Correct and redirect inappropriate camper behaviours
  • Participate in all camp programs where appropriate, based on needs of assigned camper(s)
  • Follow all Appleby College Summer Camp procedures and policies, including Appleby's Mutual Respect policy
  • Participate in all required training related to Health & Safety
  • Act as inclusion resource to all camp staff

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Applicants for this position should have completed a minimum of Secondary School; and be at least 18 years old prior to the start of the camp program
  • Experience working with children with special needs, children with behavioral exceptionalities
  • Experience providing programming or care to persons with disabilities
  • Experience working/volunteering with children in a camp setting
  • Education background in Special Education, Personal Support worker (PSW), Developmental Services Worker (DSW) or Therapeutic Recreation considered an asset
  • Any additional training in mental health first aid, crisis intervention, PSW, DSW an asset
  • Excellent time management, organization & communication skills
  • Teamoriented, motivational and creative
  • Energetic and enthusiastic
  • Bronze Cross and/or NLS certification in lifeguarding is an asset

Workplace Requirements:


  • As a condition of employment, a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR
  • C (certified on, or after Sept is required
  • Governmentissued proof of full immunization against COVID19 is required

Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications.
