Position Summary:

The director will be responsible for +$500 million in Transportation spend and planning split across dedicated partners, Third Party Logistics (3PL)/transactional partners and company owned operations.

The Director of Transportation & Planning is also responsible for leading the North American Control Tower that on a daily basis is generating transportation plans for all GB operations - Bimbo Bakeries USA, Bimbo Bakehouse & Bimbo Canada in the same geography via the Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) system.

As such, this position oversees the generation of optimal, but viable plans while ensuring that OTM is providing maximum effectiveness to all its internal and external users.

The Director will collaborate with Business Technology to spearhead Productivity improvements for OTM and transportation function.

The Director will lead a team in conjunction with purchasing on all Transport Request for Proposal (RFP) & Request for Quotation (RFQ's).

The Director will understand the Transport industry trends regarding capacity, driver shortages and new emerging technology.

He/she will use this knowledge to call out risks and opportunities and adopt new strategies for Bimbo Bakeries USA transportation and OTM technology.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Solid relationship builder with our core vendors and seeks out potential new vendors based on their experience and knowledge of the industry.
  • Work with purchasing to develop a robust RFP & RFQ process for all contracts.
  • The business lead for all consulting endeavors with McKinsey and Kalypso and the conduit to ensure projects are completed and feasible.
  • Work with the BU's and OTM data to seek opportunities for sourcing, frequency and cubing solutions.
  • Utilize OTM reporting for key KPI's regarding but not limited to: Carrier Prime Tender Acceptance (PTA), Ontime (OT)departure, OT delivery, Bakery conformance to load readiness, cube utilization, empty miles etc.
  • Ensures that all transportation plans communicated to the field and carriers meet the highest standard of optimization and viability criteria.
  • Defines the areas of responsibilities for OTM Control Tower and approves the working schedule generated by the supervisors to ensure full and effective coverage of all Business Units & Divisions in North America.
  • Provides direction to OTM manager on areas of opportunity within OTM and build KPI (Key Performance Indicators) based plans on how to utilize our assets effectively and efficiently.
  • Provides guidance for issue resolution.
  • Identifies, develops, and assists in the implementation of waste elimination initiatives, such as backhauls, while maintaining high service and response levels to the field.
  • Supports all transportation network analysis efforts.
  • Ensure we have sustainable processes in OTM that span across Business Units with SOP's that allow for ease of transition from one Business Unit to another.
  • Lead OTM team that every member of the control tower is trained according to his/her responsibilities and performing up to the standard.
  • Develop and build KPI reporting needs to provide visibility to execution compliance from the field and carriers.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve or streamline processes related to, or functionality within, OTM.
  • Define what carriers to connect via Electronic Data Interface (EDI) and coordinate respective IT departments to establish the connection.
  • Performs compliance audits regarding OTM processes and data maintenance.
  • Has strong relationships with Business Technology (BT) team to rectify system issues quickly and enhance OTM efficiency through adoption of new tools when available.
  • In coordination with BT team assist and leads Ocloud transformation to ensure we have a working system and business continuity
  • Aligns with Grupo Bimbo Global OTM Cloud strategy.
