Job Synopsis
MCC Saskatchewan Thrift Shops strive to be a welcoming and caring place within a community.

Generating revenue while practicing and promoting faithful stewardship and care for God's creation is the mission statement of the MCC Thrift Shops.

Village Green MCC Thrift is located in Saskatoon at 60 33rd Street West. The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is an employee of MCC Saskatchewan and reports to the Village Green General Manager.

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and modeling a high level of organization and production through recruiting, training, and mentoring volunteers.

The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is also responsible for all social media selling and marketing for the shop.


The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for developing volunteer recruiting plans and strategies, orientation of new volunteers, developing and providing job specific training for volunteers.

The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is the primary contact with all volunteers.


The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for managing the shop's social media accounts and growing the reach of the shop through social media.

Under the direction of the General Manager providing support, coaching, and training for volunteers in their various roles. This role also connects with the patrons at the shop, both customers and donors, providing a meaningful community connection.

The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for entering and maintaining all volunteer records and information in the Volgisitics database.


As required, the Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator may be called upon to assist with workroom and retail operations in order to stay on top of inventory flow.


The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator is a member of the Village Green Management team which assists and supports the Village Green General Manager in operating and managing the shop.

The Management Team consists of the General Manager, the Donations and Furniture Manager, the Retail Coordinator, Production Coordinator and the Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator.

Qualifications
Required

Development and leadership:

  • Experience in leading and training volunteers
  • Experience using and managing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok) to market and promote retails sales.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse experiences and life situations.
  • Sensitivity and awareness of cultural, racial, economic, and socially diverse communities
  • Ability to engage and influence others to achieve organizational goals.
  • Selfmotivated and willing to take initiative while at the same time willing to work as a team with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of a positive Christian presence within the shop.

Field Expertise:

  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience with volunteer management software e.g., Volgisitics
  • Experience developing and implementing social media marketing plan to increase retail sales.
  • Experience posting images and reels on Facebook / Instagram
  • Knowledge of the online secondhand market
  • Must be extremely organized and a selfstarter.
  • Strong at multitasking with the ability to prioritize a wide variety of tasks.
  • Knowledge of the secondhand market with an awareness of regulations regarding selling donated goods
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and waste reduction
  • Experience in provide excellent customer service.

Communication expertise:

  • Good oral and written communication skills required, using today's technologies.
  • Ability to diplomatically communicate policies and boundaries.

Work and Organizational Skills:

  • Ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions.
  • Willingness to grow and learn new skills.
  • Strong social media skills (Instagram, Facebook)

  • Willing to work within and promote MCC Thrift Operating Principles
  • Required to work nonstandard hours, including evenings and Saturdays.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • May require 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in a standard workday.
  • Valid Canadian Driver's license and experience driv
