Job Summary

The laboratory of Dr.

Natalie Strynadka is looking to hire an CUPE 2950 Administrative Support 3 (Grade 8) Administrative Assistant to join the team.

This appointment will be at 50% FTE (17.5 hours per week).

Organizational Status

The Administrative Assistant will report directly to the PI, Dr. Natalie Strynadka.

Work Performed

  • Supervises ~20 lab members, including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research assistants and associate in lab fiscal policies and lab safety practise and policies.
  • Coordinates complex processes, such as laboratory administration policies.
  • Establish and implementing purchasing policies and procedures for the laboratory and communicating with suppliers in matters relating to the monitoring of purchases, negotiating best values and prices; and overseeing equipment repairs.
  • Assisting principal investigator in the prioritization of tasks.
  • Facilitating and coordinating the organization of multiinvestigator collaborations.
  • Composes complex correspondence, including documents requiring significant tact and diplomacy or containing sensitive information.
  • Assists in the development of electronic information support systems including mailing lists, membership lists, and online records administration systems for the laboratory.
  • Enters, edits, and manipulates data in relevant information systems, requiring data manipulation processes of a complex nature.
  • Performs financial duties such as reconciling journal vouchers, and processing expenses, credit card payments, and travel requisitions.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.
Consequence of Error/Judgement

  • Work is performed in accordance with broadly established procedures and practices requiring initiative to plan and complete recurring assignments independently, and judgement to determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation.
  • There are a variety of job tasks requiring ongoing prioritization.
  • Responsibilities and work situations are broader in scope, with limited opportunity for standardized solutions.
Supervision Received

Works independently under mínimal supervision.

Supervision Given

Supervises more than two (2.0) FTE lab members including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research assistants.

Minimum Qualifications


High School graduation, plus one year of post-secondary education, plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
