Overview of the Opportunity:

The Accounting and Assurance Manager will focus on providing high-quality accounting, assurance, and consulting services for clients.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare engagement deliverables (financial statements, letters, and communications, etc.).
  • Review, investigate and correct accounting and assurance engagement files and financial statements.
  • Schedule and coordinate the timing and staffing required for assurance engagements and related events (i.e., fieldwork, inventory counts, meetings, etc.).
  • Plan engagements in a manner which creates file completion efficiencies while ensuring accounting and auditing standards are met.
  • Review of work in progress and workflow of assigned staff members. Maintain high quality control when reviewing work done from other team members; provide feedback to team members.
  • Monitor project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary; advise clients of project status and seek clarification on discrepancies where applicable.
  • Assist with technical accounting issues and act as a point of contact for audit and accounting assistance.
  • Prepare/review corporate and personal tax returns.
  • Assist in practice inspections, assessing quality controls and review current assurance and compilation engagement files to identify areas where the firm may require assistance in maintaining prescribed professional standards.
  • Communicate and maintain relationships with clients, Canada Revenue Agency, lawyers, and bankers.
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.

Qualifications:


  • Education_
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related equivalent degree
  • Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Experience _
  • Minimum of five years' experience in public practice
  • Skills and Knowledge _
  • Advanced accounting, auditing and tax skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in business development and growth;
  • Experience with CaseWare, Caseview and TaxPrep considered an asset;
  • A team player able to rally resources and work with others to meet the needs of the client;
  • Strong commitment to professional and client service excellence;
  • Strong interest in coaching and development, with a commitment to personal growth;
  • Proven ability to deliver the full cycle of project management accountabilities;
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines;
  • Ability to work flexible hours;
  • Experienced with engagement problem diagnosis, solution development, client communications, decision making, documentation, managing client expectations and team leadership;
  • Ability to anticipate the longterm impact of decisions and take a comprehensive approach to problemsolving.
