Health, Safety, and Child Protection Summer Student - 8 Week Placement
The Northern Alberta YMCA is looking for a student hoping to gain experience in the ever-evolving world of Health, Safety, and Child Protection (HSCP).
The team collaborates with staff, volunteers, team leaders and appropriate external bodies to promote and support a healthy and safe work and program environment for the broader YMCA community of staff, volunteers and program participants.
The team educates guides and advises team leaders, staff and volunteers with respect to their roles and responsibilities for health and safety and to ensure the YMCA of Northern Alberta meets or exceed regulatory requirements.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to be exposed to a unique variety of work environment ranging from recreational facilities, childcare centres, to office environments.
You will be joining a supportive team that will help you learn the practical skills that complement your education and interest in the HSCP industry.
Position Responsibilities
- Support in the development, updating, and reviewing Association Job Hazard Assessments
- Perform a variety of administrative duties, such as generation, distribution and compiling of safety talks, HSCP communications, spreadsheets, forms, safety suggestions and sorting/organizing hard copy incident reports
- Support with site meetings with an HSCP focus
- Conduct weekly Health and Safety site visits in the Association Day Camp Program and/or Child Care centres (Compile data on site visits)
- Collaborate with Health, Safety and Child Protection Representative's in centres
- Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the YMCA's mission, vision and values.
- Support and achieve organizational goals while maintaining an efficient, productive, and positively cultured work environment and employee experience.
- Attending required HSCP trainings.
What You'll Need
- High School Diploma
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, Teams, Word, Excel with aptitude to learn new software and systems
- Access to reliable transportation to visit multiple Y locations across the Edmonton region
- Current and cleared Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Comfortable handling confidential information
- Ability to adapt to changing situations in a calm and professional manner
- Administration experience is an asset
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- Efficient time management skills and multitasking
