Job Description
Our Summer Student program runs each year from May to August, offering summer employment to students currently enrolled or recently graduated from applicable post-secondary studies. This program is funded by the federal government run Canada Summer Jobs Grant which requires successful candidates be 30 years of age or younger and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
We are looking for: A full-time contract Volunteer Resources Student
Hours of Work: 34 hours/week. Monday-Thursday: 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Friday: 8:30 am-3:30 pm. This is hybrid work from home role.
Reports to: Supervisor, Volunteer Resources
Responsibilities
- Annual library mail out
- Coordinating medical escorts for clients
- Facilitating social groups (in person and virtual)
- Supporting and coordinating the Legacy Project
- Participating in volunteer recruitment fairs
- File management and organization
- Creating program flyers and other graphic design materials
- Data entry
- Assisting with new volunteer orientations
Risk, Health and Safety Management
- Participating in health and safety processes and procedures.
- Participating in maintaining a safe workplace environment by cultivating a positive safety culture and encouraging best practices to promote both staff and client safety and well-being.
- Participating in all health and safety training initiatives on a regular basis.
- Taking proactive action against client incidents within your scope of practice.
- Protecting the wellbeing of staff by providing a safe and healthy working environment.
- Promoting a culture of safety by being responsible for encouraging blame-free reporting.
- Investigating adverse events by performing a root cause analysis and gathering all relevant information as it pertains to the event.
Qualifications
- Social Service Worker student.
- Experience working with seniors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good telephone and computer skills.
- Group facilitation skills is an asset.
- Command of Russian language an asset.
