The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is evolving its business processes to leverage data and digital technologies to become an "Insight Driven" Gateway.

The Manager, Digitization & Gateway Innovation plays a critical role in this evolution and provides leadership in innovation, helping to lead VFPA on its supply chain digitalization journey.


This position is responsible for providing leadership in managing and advancing the Port's use of data and implementation of analytic tools that enhance supply chain efficiency and reliability.

Central to this role is collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to identify supply chain problems or information needs; working with a cross functional team to design innovative solutions; and be one of the project leads ensuring the efficient acquisition of data and effective implementation digital tools that will drive supply chain optimization and operational integration.

The Manager interact with external stakeholders to develop the project scope and business requirements, oversee secure complex data feeds from industry stakeholders, and ensure the output data exchange, information sharing and reports provide historic insight, real time visibility and predictive analytics that will inform both VFPA and gateway operations decisions and planning.

The Manager, Digitization & Gateway Innovation will be responsible for:

Port Digitalization

  • Responsible for the implementation of gateway digitalization that drives trade and enhances the integration existing data feeds, while ensuring better efficiencies and reliability that will create better alignment and synergies amongst gateway stakeholders
  • A key contributor to the development and implementation of the Port's Gateway digitalization strategy
  • Proactively identify the business needs and data or information requirements of stakeholders while ensuring the longterm benefits of digitalization initiatives by facilitating data sharing amongst gateway stakeholders to improve operational integration
  • Ensure quality assurance on all projects by providing oversight on development and ongoing maintenance and support
  • Lead the engagement with industry stakeholders and thirdparty providers on acquiring data needed to support the digitalization of the Gateway.

Project Delivery

  • Provide leadership and management to ensure department projects are delivered on time, on budget, in scope
  • Develop and implement project management processes
  • Provide project reporting, track project progress to the Director and key clients
  • Identify, scope and initiate strategic projects that will further the mandate of Supply Chain Optimization
  • Manage multiple projects and help with Department prioritization
  • Manage external service providers, contractors and consultants in providing products, services and support to departmental projects

Leadership and Management

  • Participate in the development of departmental plans and be responsible for the development and implementation of activities and programs designed to meet the intention of specific strategic priorities
  • Participate as a member of various management and interdepartmental teams in the planning, implementation and management of business initiatives
  • Plan, implement and review departmental staffing requirements for areas of responsibility, including the determination of clear position descriptions, accountabilities, and reporting arrangements to optimize service delivery to all stakeholders
  • Manage subordinates, ensuring that team and individuals are committed and motivated, have defined position descriptions and reporting arrangements, their performance goals are clear and actively managed and development needs are defined and addressed
  • Participate in the planning and the review of departmental operating costs, particularly with regard to staffing requirements, overheads, consultancy services, planned business programs and service provision
