Supervisor, Plant Operations

Position Summary


Under general direction from Supervisor Plant Operations and/or Charge Hand Plant Operations performs a wide variety of maintenance duties such as daily operation and repairs, maintenance and preventative maintenance of all building equipment and systems including but not restricted to steam boilers, hot water boilers, a/c units, potable water systems, compressed air and air handling systems.

The incumbent is responsible for quality work in a timely manner and ensuring that all duties are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all statutory codes and regulations and any operational systems established by the department from time to time.

Responsibilities:


  • Performs routine activities in the daily operation and maintenance of building systems utilizing safe operating methods and in compliance with building codes, departmental guidelines and legislated standards.
  • Repairs, maintains and carries out preventative maintenance on all the physical plants systems and components ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the buildings.
  • Operates the computerized control systems for fire alarm, environmental, mechanical and electrical operational systems.
  • Responds to both Preventative Maintenance and to work orders and work requests on the campus on a daily basis in a timely fashion, records completed work orders, findings and ensure historical data is recorded in CMMS
  • Completes associated water testing and test procedures and completes all required logs and other documentation accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Ensures the University is following all Occupational Health and Safety legislation, guidelines, standards, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Checks all phases of the operation for difficulties or irregularities. Troubleshoots mechanical and operations problems and perform mechanical maintenance repairs where required.
  • Regularly cleans, and paints the mechanical rooms as required.
  • Responds to emergency calls in accordance with University policies to provide operational repair services as assigned.
  • Monitors the environmental and protection systems for buildings.
  • Assists other members of the department on a daily basis to carry out duties required within the Campus Operations team.
  • Participates in democratic decision making; exhibiting appropriate 'office/workplace' behavior that is sensitive to the effect on others of personal actions, language and habits; and takes personal responsibility for maintaining a professional approach to working relationships and conflict resolution.
  • Functions as an integral part of the University team and performs special projects and other duties of a similar scope and complexity related to facilities maintenance services or otherwise as assigned, and to assist with the achievement of the University's initiatives.
  • Job Requirements
    Qualifications:
  • Education, Training and Experience:
  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate.
  • Grade 12 plus ten (10) years recent experience performing duties related to the position, including one (1) year in a similar role utilizing shop and hand tools, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and H&S Policy and procedures.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license in the province of BC.
  • Basic Safety, Equipment Maintenance, Presenting Technical Information.
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate equipment related to duties and work performed.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • General knowledge of procedures involved in work performed.
