Scope


Plan, organize, and deliver summer programming for children and youth that facilitate skills development and promotes health and well-being, team building, social connection, and positive relations, and to support settlement and integration of newcomer youth (immigrants/refugees).


Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate activities for youth in areas, such as arts, life and social skills, leadership, science, and sports
  • Organize field trips and guest speakers
  • Complete necessary administrative responsibilities for registration, attendance, daily activity reports, incident reports, and other documentation needed
  • Ensure that all health and safety standards are met and that the operation of the program is in compliance with organization policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Ensure that the materials and program spaces are wellarranged and left clean and in good order at the end of the program
  • Be ready to accept, supervise, and facilitate children at the scheduled time
  • Carry out daily duties, such as greeting participants/parents, organizing equipment, materials, and supplies, and distributing and collecting permission slips
  • Monitor children's behaviour and intervene as needed
  • Ensure that the children are never left unattended/unsupervised
  • Provide activities that encourage respect for the values, customs, and traditions of diverse cultures
  • Contribute occasionally to handling client phone calls/inquiries for other programs onsite
  • Report on activities and provide program evaluation
  • Participate in training and planning sessions as required
  • Promote and create awareness of the agency's services, projects, and programs

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • Eligible applicants must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
  • Postsecondary education (in progress or completed) in the following studies: Child and Youth Studies, Education, Community Services, Recreation, Social Work, Arts, Psychology, or other related filed
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate or willingness to obtain
  • At least one season/summer of experience leading children
  • Skills and abilities to plan and organize activities for children
  • Skills and interest in art, culture, sport, drama and/or science
  • Technical skills and abilities to facilitate engaging online activities as needed
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion, and demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of diverse newcomers
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrates ethical judgment and professional boundaries
  • Highly motivated, personable, and well organized

Other requirements

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (completed when offer is made)
