About the Role


The Team Leader, Real Estate Investment Finance will provide senior level analytical skills by providing financial expertise and accounting services in financial analysis and reporting for the Real Estate investments of the OPSEU Pension Plan Trust.

The position will play a key role in supporting the Senior Manager, Alternatives Investment Finance in the oversight of the alternative investments.


This role is responsible for leading, coaching and providing direction to Financial Analyst, Alternative Investments, Financial Accountant, Alternative Investment and Finance Coordinator, in the operational aspects of their roles, as well as on departmental initiatives and projects.

The Team Leader will work closely with the Senior Manager Alternatives Investment Finance on certain projects, playing a lead role in project management and guidance for the project team.


Performs financial and accounting functions to ensure that all operational requirements are completed in a timely and accurate manner.- Reviewing books and records for the Real Estate investment portfolio ensuring that the general ledger has been accurately accounted for, updated and reconciled to the sub-system on a timely basis.- Ensuring the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of financial information in the relevant databases.- All funds/investments have been reported in accordance with their terms and conditions.- All management and other related fees have been correctly calculated in accordance with the investment agreements.- Cash transactions have been correctly recorded.- Estimates of income are reasonable.- All investment positions are reconciled to the Asset and Property Managers.

- Ensures that all general ledger investment-related activities are completely and accurately recorded, analyzed and reported on a timely basis, and assets are adequately safeguarded by ensuring that:

  • All reconciliations are completed accurately on a timely basis.
  • All monthly reports are completed accurately on a timely basis and develops appropriate reporting to monitor the investments.
  • The Quarterly Financial reporting package is completed accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Enhances and implements processes to meet the evolving operational requirements of the Finance department ensuring appropriate controls and procedural documentation are in place
  • Assumes an overall coordinating role on the interim and year-end audits performed by OPTrust's auditors on investment positions and all investment-related activities.
  • Other operating responsibilities as assigned.


Provides leadership and guidance to other junior staff within the Real Estate Investment Finance team- Training and acting as a general resource on Finance processes, policies and procedures to both Finance and other OPTrust team members.- Providing a leadership role in research and detailed analysis to support the alternative investment portfolio.- Providing guidance and organizing workflow among other team members, including the Financial Analyst, Alternative Investments.

Develops, prepares and reviews internal and external financial reports and presentations for alternative investments by:

  • Taking a lead role in the preparation of annual financial statements for the real estate subsidiaries, including notes thereto, which remain the responsibility of OPTrust, ensuring appropriate CICA disclosure requirements and any dis
