The Wildlife Biologist provides professional and technical expertise to support management of natural diversity of wildlife species and their habitats.

Key activities include recommendations to support statutory decisions, operational planning, science-based standards, monitoring and technical reports, lead and/or support projects which may include management of contracts.

British Columbia's oldest interior community, Fort St. John is perfect for scenic drives, hiking, fishing, and camping, as it sits alongside the Peace River.

Hiking is particularly nice in the surrounding provincial parks of Beatton Provincial Park and Charlie Lake Provincial park, where camping is also available.

Its gentle rolling hills are perfect for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter months.

Job Requirements:


Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences or related field and three years of *related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience includes field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.

  • Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.
  • Experience assessing and monitoring natural resources.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.

Willingness Statements:


  • Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Willingness to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Willingness to meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.

About this Position:

There is one (1) temporary opportunity available until March 17th, 2024. An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.


This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests offices: Fort St John, Fort Nelson, Dawson Creek.


Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
