Symphony Senior Living Forest Valley (Orleans) is currently seeking Full-Time Activity Coordinator (Life Enhancement Coordinator) with a caring heart. We will teach you our systems, programs and philosophy. However, we cannot teach compassion and empathy, so you will demonstrate those to us in an interview process.

  • Create an enjoyable, professional, relaxed, and entertaining environment and assume responsibility for the morale and well being of residents
  • Knowledge and understanding of Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias and a desire to serve residents and families.
  • Leadership skills and ability to coordinate care across disciplines (including Wellness, Activities, Dining, etc.)
  • Delivers training and orientation programs to new Community employees and ensures all staff are trained to provide care and life enrichment.
  • Actively participates in the resident assessment and care planning process, working closely with the Wellness Coordinator and Executive Director, based on the family interviews and ongoing evaluation of resident needs.
  • Plan a monthly activity schedule offering a variety of activities, events and outings for residents with dementia and Alzheimer's.
  • Communicate, plan, and organize individualized daily life enrichment programs for each resident through actions of self, Resident Specialists and volunteers, ensuring all residents receive adequate notice and encouragement for the relevant activities
  • Interview, assess and record resident's social history, physical ability and behaviours, spiritual lifestyle, important memories and losses, family dynamics and contacts, activity preferences and desires, dietary requirements and language abilities
  • Produce a monthly record on the activities for each resident, identifying plans for any improvements required, and submit to the General Manager
  • Drive resident transport when required for resident outings
  • Participate in budget preparation and control
  • Maintains all activities and van/bus equipment, records, costs, inventory, supplies, storage, receipts
  • Help with marketing and advertising strategies and programs
  • Manage the volunteer program, including selection, orientation, motivation, supervision, and development of volunteers
  • Plan, organize, and write contributions to the monthly newsletter containing a variety of articles and information for distribution to the residents and their families
  • Develop and monitor a welcoming committee for the new residents, hospital visitation committee, residents' council and fundraising committee
  • Contact and maintain positive relationships with community organizations

Job Qualifications:


  • Experience / education in cognitively impaired resident and behaviour issues.
  • 3 years experience in a Retirement Home Environment
  • Assessment Skills
  • Understanding of Palliative Care issues and related community resources.
  • Able to qualify for certification / registration by
    Ontario Therapeutic Recreation Ontario and / or Activity Professionals of Ontario.
  • Ontario Driver's License (F Class)

  • You must be in good physical health as this job requires lifting, sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Must have availability to work weekends rotations
