RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • To conduct all preadmission interviews from a trauma Informed perspective
  • To conduct a weekly orientation/information session with potential clients
  • To respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner
  • To supervise placement of clients in rooms
  • To maintain files of all admissions, inquiries and refusals
  • To ensure that clients are adequately oriented to the Homestead and its program
  • To ensure that the room roster is maintained and updated regularly as required
  • To establish and maintain a computerized client information data base
  • To communicate and build relationships with outside agencies
  • To serve on outside committees as appointed
  • To keep Connex informed weekly regarding availability of beds
  • To participate in all staff meetings by attendance and giving input for improvement of program and operation
  • To conduct a weekly inhouse orientation with assessment clients
  • To participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor
  • To represent the Salvation Army & Homestead Addiction Services in a professional manner at all times
  • To participate in staff development as required
  • To prepare monthly statistical reports
  • To lead weekly pretreatment groups
  • To undertake other duties as assigned
  • Willingness to drive as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES:


  • Undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized institution (in one of the Human Services professions) potential to enter a Provincially Regulated College
  • Minimum 3 years' experience
  • Understanding of the continuum of addiction
  • Knowledge and experience in substance abuse counselling interventions / treatment models
  • Knowledge and experience with ADAT assessments (or GAIN Q3 Tool)
  • Knowledge and experience with concurrent disorders
  • Knowledge and experience in assessments, individual and group counselling and case management
  • Knowledge of culturally competent practices
  • Knowledge and experience with data management systems, particularly Catalyst
  • Understanding of trauma in relation to substance abuse
  • The ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • The ability to work collaboratively with community partners
  • The ability to maintain client records / files according to agency standards
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to team work
  • Selfmotivated and able to motivate others
  • Strong and positive verbal and written communication in English and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (excel, word, PowerPoint)
  • Provide a successful vulnerable sector screen and criminal record check as per Salvation Army Policies and Procedures

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING IN:


  • Relapse prevention
  • CBT, MI, Strength based Approach and Trauma Informed Practices
  • Crisis intervention
  • Pharmacology
  • Harm Reduction Strategies, Resources and Risk Management
  • Client Assessment and Discharge Planning
  • Networking, Referrals and strong knowledge of resources
  • Understanding and appreciation of Diverse populations
  • Awareness and experience with marginalized and vulnerable populations
  • Outcome measurements
  • Basic First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Proficient in English language
  • Knowledge of second language an asset




HOURS:
40 Hours per week, flexibility to work late one evening per week


Wage is as per CBA - position is a unionized role
