Our award-winning team consists of best-in-class experts in communications strategy and planning, news and magazine writing, media relations, video production, social media, digital design and development, issues management and brand marketing.

We bring a strategic, integrated and data-driven approach to show how the University community — across all three campuses — is working to Defy Gravity.

Your opportunity:

The Stakeholder Communications Officer is a core member of the internal communications team within UTC.

You bring a holistic understanding of communications planning and execution, and are capable of overseeing a project from end to end — from developing the plan or brief, to writing compelling content, to presenting the impact report.

You are adept at understanding the needs of a diverse range of stakeholders, comfortable providing sound advice on the most effective communications approaches or tactics to achieve their goals, and then helping them follow through.

A primary responsibility of the role is editing and producing the Bulletin Brief, the University of Toronto's highest profile internal publication.

An important source of information for faculty, staff, and librarians, the Bulletin Brief is distributed electronically three times a week across all three campuses and delivers intel on institutional priorities, key updates and events to our internal audiences.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and/or editing original, published content and materials, including acting as editor of the University's flagship internal newsletter.
  • Implementing plans that support University and/or divisional strategic priorities, including project schedules, milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting.
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance, and advising on the most effective methods of achieving desired communications goals.
  • Implementing an integrated multichannel digital communications approach.
  • Writing and editing targeted communications to support strategic initiatives, including researching, conducting interviews and writing news stories for assigned channels.
  • Coordinating the production and distribution of communication materials, and determining logistics of content scheduling for editorial calendars.
  • Analyzing and recommending process changes for more efficient multichannel communication practices, and analyzing the effectiveness of campaigns and/or programs using metrics.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.

  • Excellent editing, researching, and writing skills. Demonstrated initiative, both in uncovering and developing stories and in creating or helping to create innovative vehicles for telling those stories.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact with all levels of academic and administrative staff.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing multichannel communications plans and rollouts, including producing tactics and reporting outcomes, with a high degree of independence.
  • Experience and expertise with digital platforms including newsletter production tools, and social media, including emerging platforms or channels.
  • Proficiency with web analytics and familiarity with industrystandard metrics for measuring the effectiveness of communications campaigns.

Technical Skills:

  • Facility with basic image editing software (e.g., Photoshop)
  • Facility with web publishing tools (e.g., general Content Management System experience)
  • Facility with basic web development and mail delivery tools (e.g., Drupal, MailChimp) and basic understanding of HTML
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel
