At the Ottawa Network for Education (ONFE) we fuel kids and ignite learning, making sure all children in Ottawa have an equal start every day.

ONFE is a charitable organization that collaborates with partners from education, business, government, and the community to develop enriching programs for K-12 students.

Working with the four public school boards, ONFE supports children and youth in English and French.

No other community organization has the same reach and ability to respond and deliver much-needed programs to schools across the region.


Bilingual Program Coordinator - Volunteer Programs
We are looking for a bilingual (English and French), self-motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized, and versatile individual.

You bring a customer service focus to volunteer management and enjoy developing and nurturing relationships with adult volunteers and other key stakeholders within Ottawa's public school system.

You will be a vital touchpoint for volunteers and will be integral to the implementation of ONFE's volunteer programs and services.

Respect for and understanding of effective data management is also important in this role.

The responsibilities of this position are varied and offer scope for the development of a diverse skill set. This position reports to the Program Manager of the Volunteers in Education (VIE) Program.


Key Responsibilities

  • Volunteer recruitment, engagement, and training in support of program delivery requirements;
  • Screen, match, and manage volunteer placements in consultation with Principals, Vice-Principals, and/or School Volunteer Coordinators;
  • Develop and foster respectful and accountable working relationships with key stakeholders, internal and external to ONFE;
  • Support VIE partners to promote accurate volunteer postings and referrals;
  • Administer ONFE's volunteer database system, including running reports;
  • Maintain complete and accurate program documentation;

Required Skills/Experience

  • Minimum 35 years of supervisory or management experience working with volunteers;
  • Minimum 35 years of volunteer database experience;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in both French and English for top quality customer service;
  • Technical aptitude and proficiency with Microsoft Teams suite and video meeting software (zoom, google meets, etc);

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, Education, Social Sciences, Community Development, Adult Education, or equivalent;
  • College certificate in Volunteer Management or equivalent;
  • Fluency in both French and English. French and English language proficiency is Level C-Advanced (Reading, Writing, and Oral Interaction), equivalent to the Federal Government Second Official Languages Qualifications;
  • Professional certification from the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration is an asset;
  • Membership in Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada, provincial association or local chapter is an asset;
  • Driver's license and access to a reliable motor vehicle with insurance coverage that has no policy restrictions for work related driving;
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check in alignment with ONFE's Conditions of Employment.

Hybrid work:


  • ONFE offers a hybrid work environment, which requires work both in the office and remote.


This is a permanent full-time position, 5 days/week for 10 months/year and the annualized salary range is $50,000 to $60,000.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this position align with the school year. The seasonal implications for this role result in temporary breaks in service over the summer months.
