Food Service Representative to support our
Patient Food Services Department at
Mount Sinai Hospital.

Performs a variety of duties throughout the kitchen including but not limited to: patient meal and snack preparation; patient meal delivery; ware washing and garbage/recycling disposal


Meal Delivery Responsibilities

  • Delivery of meal trays, menus, and snacks to patient rooms,
  • Replenishing bulk nourishment supplies to unit pantry, collecting meal trays from patient rooms, cleaning and sanitizing unit pantry
  • Prepares and portions patient menu items, snacks and bulk supplies for unit pantries

Patient Meal Preparation Responsibilities

  • Work on Blean station preparing patient meals
  • Assists with the assembly, distribution, and pick up of patient meal trays
  • Follows portion control guidelines and therapeutic diet restrictions
  • Responsible for preparation and rethermalization of food items using the appropriate methods outlined by the Department

Porter Responsibilities

  • Washes pots and pans, and works in the dish room
  • Transports and cleans food carts
  • Collects and recycles and disposes of all garbage within the department
  • Ensures safe operation, maintenance and cleanliness of all other related equipment

Departmental Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean work area while following proper food handling and sanitation procedures including HACCP
  • Follows proper chemical handling instructions outlined by WHMIS
  • Demonstrates SHS's core expectations of employee conduct; includes attending relevant continuing education sessions, following all Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures, complying with applicable Health and Safety standards and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
  • Assists with other duties related to the position as assigned


  • Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma
  • 1 year recent food service experience in a healthcare setting
  • 1 year recent customer service experience
  • Successful completion of the Food Handlers course and WHMIS (preferred)
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position in order to perform the essential duties of the position which requires frequent exposure to extreme warm and cold temperatures, prolonged walking and standing (up to 7.5 hours), frequent independent and assisted lifting/pushing (25 lbs. or more), turning, stooping, reaching and bending at the arms, waist and knees for extended periods of time
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible/adaptable in a challenging, diverse and changing work environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and read using English, to effectively perform essential requirements of this position
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
