    This is a Term employment opportunity to March 2027, located at any NBCC campus location (Fredericton, Miramichi, Moncton, Saint John, St. Andrews and Woodstock).

    Responsibilities

    The Chair's strategic contribution and operational leadership is key to ensuring the objectives of programs offered by NBCC are met through the efficient and effective management of all fiscal and human resources, while endorsing adult education principles, a safe work environment, and portfolio learning in a learning-centered college.

    Academic Leadership:

  • Promotes, implements and assesses initiatives in support of adult education best-practices, portfolio education and the learning-centered college.
  • Accountable to evaluate, access, and continuously monitor quality assurance or College programming including but not limited to, course feedback process, classroom visits, etc.
  • Ensures programs are delivered in an efficient and effective manner, and that teaching methodologies support adult education best-practices, portfolio education and the learning-centered college.
  • Ensures all programs, initiatives, and organizational goals align and integrate into strategic, academic and school goals, plans and activities.
  • Remains on the forefront of adult education principles, practices and systems through pursuit of personal and professional development opportunities and affiliation with relevant professional organizations.
  • School Leadership:

  • Supports the Dean and other Chairs in creating and sustaining a learning centered environment that aligns and integrates into strategic, academic and departmental goals, plans and activities.
  • Works collaboratively with business development on initiatives by supervising the delivery of programs that are consistent with School goals and priorities.
  • Responsible for fostering cooperative and collaborative relationships between other schools and the College, as applicable.
  • People Management:

  • Leads change, guides, and supports faculty and staff, encourages the success of students and participates with the community and stakeholders.
  • Determines appropriate skills set and level of staffing to meet school and student needs.
  • Participates in the recruitment process ensuring appropriate technical knowledge of applicants.
  • Identifies and develops, in conjunction with the Deans, requirements for program resources (human, equipment and financial).
  • Student Success Management:

  • Support the success of all students through open communications and collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Provides advice and guidance to students and instructors on services that best support the needs of the student.
  • Conducts analysis of marks, instructors and student assessments in order to identify possible issues and/or trends that require follow up.
  • Be responsible for recording, tracking, and reporting data related to student attendance, performance, course selection, program concentration selection, elective selection, pre-placement, accommodations, and other data as required.
  • Provides for increased student success and student communication through feedback mechanisms which involve the student population and student government in communication with School faculty, staff, and leaders.
  • Works with Student Services and faculty in the orientation, ongoing assessment and promotion of students and liaises with the Manager of Student Development to initiate actions as required.
  • External Communication & Relations:

  • Builds relations with external stakeholders and associations through participation on program advisory committees to monitor industry trends, technology and equipment changes.
  • Supports the success of industry by understanding and responding to their needs through program development / change and delivery for regular and contract programs.
  • Works with NBCC Marketing to profile and promote student success stories to the public.
  • Participates in community activities in support of college initiatives and encourage staff and students to become engaged in community activities.
  • The successful candidate may be responsible for overseeing and travelling to six (6) NBCC campuses (Fredericton, Miramichi, Moncton, Saint John, St. Andrews and Woodstock).

    What you'll need

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience:

  • Diploma or Degree in related field.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have completed the NBCC Management Academy or an equivalent Adult Education Credential. Preference may also be given to candidates who have previous academic leadership experience or teaching experience at a post-secondary institution.
  • Technical/Professional Skills:

  • Experience in managing human resources, budgets, and external relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent evidence-based problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Successful experience in developing teams and creating a collaborative workplace.
  • Demonstrated competency in relationship building.
  • Ability to direct, influence and lead several functions simultaneously through effective planning and organizational ability.
  • Demonstrated practice of promoting collaboration and collegiality
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to engage, inspire, motivate, and to provide coaching to develop others in the achievement of excellence.
  • Ability to build cooperative partnerships, to successfully build teams, and to lead integrated initiatives.
  • Ability to establish respectful working relationships across all groups; internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated expertise in innovative problem solving and strategic thinking.
  • Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License and passport as travel will be required.
  • Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes.

    Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.
