    Description

    Position Summary


    Reporting to the Plant Managers, the Health and Safety Specialist is accountable for the implementation and monitoring of processes and practices to achieve a safe work environment. This includes providing occupational health and safety advice to the plant staff to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, guidelines, and standards to support the plant's safety program and initiatives.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Provide guidance and technical support to plant management regarding specific issues relative to health & safety programs and policies.
    • Accountable for identifying, developing, and delivering the health & safety training requirements for the workforce.
    • Conduct audits to ensure safe plant operations, facilitating corrective actions with plant management as necessary.
    • Collect and analyze statistical data pertaining to the plant's safety and health program. Prepare various reports to support various health and safety initiatives.
    • Support the claims/case management requirements of the facility, as required and at the direction of Sofina's claims professionals.
    • Coordinate and facilitate any WCB/WSIB proactive/program initiatives, as directed.
    • Provide ongoing support/participation to the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
    • Accountable for the facilitation and monitoring of the Plant Safety Program to eliminate the risks causing workplace incidents and injuries.
    • Accountable for the facilitation and monitoring of a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
    • Accountable for identifying trends and areas of improvement and communicating with plant management.
    • Participate in corporate health & safety initiatives (such as conference calls, audits, etc.) to ensure site representation, inclusion, and consistency.

    Requirements

    • Certification from a recognized Occupational Health & Safety program, in the process of obtaining certification or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
    • 2-3 years' experience in a similar role.
    • Ability to connect, influence both frontline and salaried employees and build trust with diverse groups.
    • Knowledge of applicable Provincial/State safety legislation and regulation, Occupational Health and Safety standards is required.
    • Valid Advanced First Aid Certificate or Emergency Medical Technician Certification is required.

    Hiring Range: CAD $64,393 - $92,082

    Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus up to 8% of base salary subject to the plan terms and conditions.

    Please note that the expected hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity.
