Job Description:
- : In accordance with established policies, procedures, guidelines and tools the incumbent is responsible for effectively helping on developing and engineering all aspects of Cogeco's Optical Transport Networking solutions for layer 2 & 3 network including design, planning, provisioning, equipment tracking and work order development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in the development and engineering of layer 2 & 3 data networking solutions including design, planning, provisioning and implementation of Optical Transport network.
Prepare project proposals, address RFPs based on the marketing input and using appropriate technology to deliver cost effective solutions to the end customers using Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies.
IP/Transport/Optical network engineering, capacity allocation, planning, technology evaluation, testing and integration with operating network.
Working experience with DWDM and SONET technologies including optical amplifiers, troubleshooting of the link degradation and failures using optical tools.
Issues and manages work order system including developing, issuing and tracking network work order.
Works closely with the Technical Operations for network handoff requirements. Interfaces with internal departments to ensure effective network operations and customer connectivity.
Assists in the coordination and documentation on change management on network elements (i.e. upgrades, service change and addition of customer sites)
Assist in the development of network (IP Layer) design for new product or technology introduction.
Assist in handling special customer connectivity design and implementation.
Helps in the documentation of processes and procedures that need to be handed off to NOC.
Assist in the documentation as built of all devices used in the network design to provide network services. Support in operational tasks and coordinates the handoff and implementation of the respective processes with the Technical Operations department.
Issue appropriate Engineering documentation when network changes, extensions or new technologies are being deployed; i.e. HL and DL design, among others.
Assists team in installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of data, voice, high speed data equipment and others.
Resolves help desk tickets assigned to the Network team, and Engineer escalation support for network issues. On call support required.
Performs other duties/projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
ACADEMIC TRAINING- Bachelor's Degree or combination of equivalent education and experience. Cisco Certification would be an asset- WORK EXPERIENCE- Minimum 5 to 8 years of relevant IT experience. 3-5 years strong hand-on experience with routing protocols and MPLS/VPN deployment. Experience with layer 2 switching.
SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES- Must understand Layer-2 &3 networks, IP Routing, TCP/IP, WAN protocols. Understanding of DWDM technology including optical amplifiers, MUX and DMUX, Ethernet, SONET and TDM. Good understanding of routing protocols such as BGP/OSPF/RIP and MPLS/VPN concepts. Familiar with Cisco IOS and Hardware.
Familiar with IP/Ethernet networks and capacity management Hands-on networking skills and ability to communicate with peers and operations. Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills. Must be detail oriented with developed analytical and technical documentation skills. Planning and troubleshooting skills. Developed interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others...
