Job Purpose


To work with the OSC Toronto Team to ensure the high quality of services of its School Crossing Guards (SCG) program within the OSC Toronto-West Zone (Etobicoke) zone, by assisting the OSC Toronto Team with site visits, incident follow up procedures, and training support during the school year (September - June).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


The
Field Supervisors will provide necessary duties in "the field" at intersections and routes throughout the City of Toronto in support of the OSC's School Crossing Guard (SCG) program.

They will be responsible for quality assurance of the School Crossing Guards, ensuring that School Crossing Guards are present for all required shifts and are following correct techniques and procedures.

The Field Supervisors will be responsible for building relationships with schools within their area to develop a form of communication, shift updates, and other requests for changes in services.

The Field Supervisors will conduct site investigations as directed and required by the Operations Manager. Field Supervisors will assist with other duties as needed.


Responsibilities

  • Provide quality assurance of the School Crossing Guards, ensuring that School Crossing Guards are present for all required shifts, confirming the reports from the reporting system;
  • Attend as needed site investigations when requested by the Operations Manager;
  • Provide the Operations Manager with a resolution plan within 48 hours of all issues and complaints made by the public or the City;
  • Conduct field investigation and/or assist Operations Manager with other duties associated with timely investigation of complaints and providing resolutions;
  • Assist where necessary with last minute shift coverage to ensure 100% coverage redeployment throughout the school year;

Job Duties

  • Field Supervisors are responsible for all identified neighbourhoods (subzones) within the Zone-West intersections (i.e., "sites").
  • Reviewing incidents and complaints logged by the office and responding in a timely manner;
  • Communicating with Crossing Guards assigned to their subzone (i.e., answering questions, listening to/addressing concerns, building rapport etc.);
  • Conducting orientation and training with new Crossing Guards, Field Supervisors when needed;
  • Conducting performance reviews of all Crossing Guards within their designated subzones;
  • Liaising with all Crossing Guards in their designated subzones on a regular basis and carrying out Performance Reviews twice yearly
  • Performing Physical Site Inspections (i.e., Pavement marking, assessing potential hazards, and checking school zone signage, observing traffic patterns) with members of the Joint Health and Safety Committee;
  • Distribution and retrieval of equipment to Crossing Guards in the field. Conducting monthly inventory of equipment at the office;
  • Preparing and submitting reports/summaries of incident and complaint resolution;
  • Report safety risks and violations observed to appropriate authorities (i.e. TPS, 311, etc.);
  • Providing guidance relative to compliance with policies and safety regulations and practice;
  • Other duties as required;

Requirements:


  • 23 years of supervisory experience with direct reports;
  • Experience with Joint Health and Safety and/or Quality and Risk committee work;
  • Must hold a valid G driver's license with fewer than seven demerit points and maintain a clean record;
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, as local travel is required. Driving in all weather conditions is required;
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate;
  • A home computer and cell phone are required; A table will be provided.

Work Conditions

  • Accountable to work in all environmental conditions. Environmental conditions may include but are not limited to snowstorms, freezing rain, cold temperatures, rain, heat waves, humidity, hot temperatures, and dust, etc.
  • Ability to dress appropriate for, and perform moderate physical labour during all weather conditions;

  • Hazards associated with high traffic conditions;
