PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Building Damages Specialist's primary focus is to have expertise on removal and repair or replacement of damaged buildings that are insured by the company.

The Building Damage Specialist is knowledgeable with the pricing of building remediation, repair and replacement and must have the ability to enforce RRM procedure and protocol on contractors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

Scoping Building Damage _
Travel to loss sites with claims specialists, independent adjusters (IA's), contractors, and policyholders.
Document the detailed scope of work for contractors to utilize for pricing/bidding.
Mentor and teach claims specialists how to scope claims
Confirm with policyholder that scope of work is complete and accurate
Scope and approve additional repair or damage if it arises. Additions to scope can occur after the contractor has started the remediation work and additional damage is discovered.
Large Loss Tendering _
Prepare Tender documents for contractors to bid on for claims over 100K
Distribute Tender package to contractors
Assist claims specialist/independent adjuster with returned tender packages
Review Estimates & Conduct Evaluations _
Review and approve estimates from submitted to RRM by contractors
Watch estimates for duplication of charges and services
Watch estimates for charges for work unrelated to claim
Review additions to estimates if they arise
Provide claims specialist or IA with control evaluations of repair costs in rural areas or when a second estimate cannot be obtained.
Provide homeowner pricing for building repairs when requested
Provide Actual Cash Value (ACV) pricing for ACV policies
Miscellaneous_
Scope and list building code upgrades for claims specialist or IA.
Collaborate with Environmental companies to develop scope of environmental remediation work.
Tender environmental remediation work to companies who perform environmental abatement such as mold and asbestos remediation.
Review tenders and award work
Work with Environmentalist to determine safe air quality after remediation
Assist Vendor Management Specialist in developing protocol for contractors to follow when working on claims
Assist in developing fair pricing for contractors
Assist with selecting preferred contractors
Assist claims specialists and IA's with policyholder when warranty issues arise

**QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS: - Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certificate (IICRC) is required

Technical training as a journeyman carpenter is considered an asset
Minimum of high school diploma education is preferred
Class 5 Drivers License is required (proof will be required upon presentation of offer)
Ladder Safety and Fall Protection training required (provided by Company)
Experience in Xactimate/Corelogic is considered an asset
Building construction knowledge is preferred
5+ years' experience in building construction, engineering, environmental remediation, or other relevant industry is required.
Strong decision making abilities
Ability to analyze and navigate complex documentation
Strong customer service skills, and ability to diffuse hostile situations
Strong time management skills
