Here's the job opportunity


This new role in Corporate Tax will be involved with the entire range of tax activities, issues and accountable to direct the calculation and filing of all corporate taxes in a manner that is compliant with tax legislation/regulation and its interpretation.

It will also be responsible for financial reporting of all tax expenses/recoveries and tax accounting for all related taxable entities.


The successful incumbent will oversee the service delivery of the company's outsourced policyholder tax administration to ensure compliance with tax reporting requirements.

The incumbent will also monitor for changes in tax law or administrative practice impacting ivari's operations and oversee the technical research in relevant areas.


The successful incumbent will also participate in international tax projects as needed to assist with tax-related compliance, including Sagicor group BEPS Pillar 2 compliance implementation, transfer pricing, etc.


You will work with leaders across the CFO area and the organization to identify and implement changes to internal policies/guidelines from a tax perspective to ensure processes and policies are kept current.


You will

  • Support Canada Revenue Agency and provincial large case file audits, including handling queries and proposed adjustments, filing Notices of Objection with Appeals when necessary. Communicate, advocate, and negotiate as needed
  • Oversee accurate and timely remittance of all corporate taxes
  • Direct accurate tax accounting and provisions for all corporate taxes (current and deferred) to meet quarterly and annual filing deadlines for internal and external reporting, also for all financial projections
  • Review all required prescribed tax returns to ensure preparation on a tax compliant basis for all taxable entities (corporations and trusts including Canadian Affiliates) with all federal and provincial jurisdictions, including international tax reporting requirements
  • Monitor and review all tax changes in the legislative, regulatory, and judicial environments
  • Recruit, train, develop and coach tax resources capable of discharging recurring day to day tax compliance duties
  • Monitor policyholder tax administration policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with tax withholdings and reporting requirements, including oversight of related IT transformation project
  • Establish, maintain, monitor, and assess the effectiveness of internal controls for financial reporting of tax disbursements and accruals
  • Monitor and review all related accounting changes, partnering with the Finance Department, to ensure the tax impacts are assessed and understood relative to the Company's business and/or potential business, as well as for specific business transactions
  • Support Sagicor related tax projects and work with Vice President, Corporate Tax to oversee external advisor's work, or facilitate the completion of tax compliance deadlines
  • Coordinate all internal and external processes related to tax compliances and tax provision
  • Engage in industrylevel consultations with tax authorities and peer companies
  • Support other corporate objectives, as needed

What we are looking for

  • Tax accountant with Professional Accounting Certification (CPA) and related university degree
  • Minimum of 12 to 15 years of senior corporate tax administration, compliance, and planning experience in issues related to life insurance (i.e., in a life insurance company or in the life insurance tax practice of an accounting firm providing tax advice and administration services to life insurance companies)
  • Completion of the CICA indepth tax course
  • Member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and or Tax Executives Institute
  • Contacts within the Canadian Life & Health Industry Association and industry with a good working relationship with CRA
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting matters, certain actuarial matters, policyholder tax matters, product design and certain aspects of policy administration
  • Indepth understanding of the business environment and good understanding of the company's policies and practices in the insurance industry as a whole
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistently high levels of accuracy
  • A demonstrated ability to think broadly about tax information, think through problems,
