The Infection Prevention and Control Branch is recruiting two Infection Prevention and Control Specialists to help lead the implementation of infection prevention and control (IPAC) best practices, policies, guidelines, and frameworks to embed IPAC principles and protocols and increase awareness of IPAC best practices across the Ontario Public Service (OPS).

What can I expect to do in this role?:

  • Provide enterprise and ministry-specific IPAC guidance, support and advice
  • Use strong IPAC risk assessment skills and adopt a riskbased, solutionfocused approach that is responsive to the IPAC needs of the varying OPS workplaces
  • Serve as a branch IPAC technical expert representative
  • Provide IPAC leadership in emergency response planning activities
  • Collaborate with and leverage Joint Health and Safety Committees across the OPS to address IPACrelated concerns and promote IPAC best practices
  • Provide leadership on strategic planning and continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate on internal and external committees, task forces, forums and advisory groups
  • Contribute to the development of IPAC strategies, policies, directives and best practices to ensure IPAC measures are embedded in health and safety practices to ensure the reduction in occupational illnesses resulting from infectious diseases
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate IPAC initiatives, sector strategies, standards and policies, and ensure alignment with ministry, regulatory and legislative mandates
  • Identify IPAC core competencies for OPS employees, participate in the development of training and education resources and materials, and deliver IPAC training

How do I qualify?:


Leadership Skills:


  • Ability to provide IPAC leadership to a diverse team, including mentoring team members to achieve program goals
  • Experience planning, developing, implementing and evaluating IPAC initiatives
  • Demonstrated leadership in the development of partnerships and collaborations across organizations, stakeholders or sectors
  • Experience leading stakeholder engagement initiatives
  • Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities in a fastpaced environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of antiracism and inclusion
  • Proven ability to work with a high degree of initiative and independence

Technical Knowledge:


  • Strong foundational knowledge of IPAC principles and practices
  • Current Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) is an asset
  • Knowledge of outbreak management and ability to provide guidance, support and IPAC technical advice in the management and prevention of workplace outbreaks
  • Excellent analytical and evaluation skills to support the development and implementation of enterprise strategic policy initiatives
  • Knowledge of and experience in emergency planning, response and management and occupational health and safety
  • Ability to conduct IPAC organizational risk assessments, analyze results and review IPAC measures across OPS workplaces and provide IPAC recommendations to inform an IPAC framework for OPS workplaces and ensure alignment with relevant regulatory guidance and legislation and Ministry mandates, guidance and directives

Project Management, Evaluation and Risk Management Skills:

  • Experience with program planning, program evaluation and change management theories and ability to utilize project management theories, tools and techniques
  • Strong research skills to gather and synthesize data and information in a timely manner in support of the development of infection prevention and control resources, documents options and recommendations to decision makers

Communication, Interpersonal and Relationship Management Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop IPAC resources, materials, and guidance documents and write technical reports and briefings
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present complex IPAC concepts, and principles across a wide variety of audiences through various communication platforms and channels
