General Accountability


Reporting to the Executive Director, Innovation & Sustainability (ISG), the Head, Sustainable Innovation provides strategic direction and oversight for the development and implementation of the TTC's Innovation and Environmental Sustainability Strategies and Plans and collaborates and leverages internal and external partners throughout all aspects of strategy development and implementation.

The Head leads program/project governance and execution (including the TTC's project management maturity plan) in collaboration with TTC business leaders, to ensure excellence in project management execution methodologies and governance.

The Head oversees program controls and engineering services for a multi-billion-dollar portfolio.


The Head is responsible for building, and cultivating strategic partnerships and relationships with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders to influence, engage, consult with, and build meaningful support for the development and implementation of TTC's corporate social responsibility initiatives, programs and services to both enable more sustainable, resilient, innovative and efficient transit system and to ensure that the TTC's investments and operations maximize the broader social benefits in communities that the TTC operates within.


Key Job Functions

  • Provides strategic advice and support to the Executive Director on strategic planning and priority activities related to the development and implementation of short and longterm strategic plans and successful execution of innovation and sustainability programs and services.
  • Oversees the research, evaluation and filtration of ideas across all staff levels of the TTC including external stakeholder network and works closely with departments across the TTC to use new/existing insights to advance the corporate value of innovation and environmental sustainability.
  • Designs, develops and plans the implementation of the TTC's Innovation and Sustainability programs.
  • Develops and directs research focused on bringing a diverse perspective to the field of transportation to grasp issues, opportunities, assess and minimize roadblocks which may slow or prevent advancement.
  • Integrates innovation and sustainability strategies and initiatives with the TTC's 5year Corporate Plan.
  • Develops and expands a panCanadian, across sectoral network of diverse partners and external stakeholders to foster innovation and sustainability projects across the TTC. Leads and manages all related oversight and selection process, including recruitment process of Committees, volunteers, including the coordination of consortium partners, as applicable.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships at all levels across the TTC such as the Executive Team and CEO, TTC Board, and government officials to direct the research focus on innovation and sustainability;
  • Expands TTC's outreach both within North America and beyond to identify creative solutions to challenges TTC faces and maximize benefits of transit.
  • Manages and oversees the daytoday operational and financial administration of innovation and sustainability programs portfolio, new technologies and innovations, green fleet and facilities, Engineering Services and Project Management office.
  • Works closely with senior leadership, Internal Audit, and Finance, to manage the work in the Innovation & Sustainability Planning and Oversight department following established budgetary processes.
  • Reports to the Executive Team and TTC Board as necessary to obtain approval of capital and operating budget, corrections and funds transfers between accounts.
