What responsibilities will you have in this role?


Reporting to the Director, Academic Services and Learning Resources, IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Test Centre is accountable for the development, operation, and management of a self-sustaining testing centre where revenues cover not only the operating costs but contributes to the student success initiatives of the ASLR Department and the School of ESL.

The incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation, security and delivery of the IELTS test - a high-stakes system of language proficiency testing administered world-wide.

This includes adhering to the stringent policies and procedures provided by the Cambridge ESOL, British Council (BC), IDP Education Australia (IDP) and other testing organizations.

In addition to IELTS, the manager will develop other testing opportunities at the College that will contribute to the financial and student success goals of the Centre.


  • Oversees Test Centre operations, ensuring that sufficient resources are available and that all IELTS, Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and other testing sessions are run efficiently and held to the strict standards laid out by the BC and other testing organizations.
  • Manages testing space requirements and liaises with departments at all campuses to deliver tests. Makes optimal use of existing spaces and negotiates the use of other appropriate facilities to expand testing on campus and off.
  • Cooperates with the BC, inclusive of training and audits. Responsible for disseminating and implementing any updates/messages from the BC, the Council or IDP, to all IELTS staff at GBC including examiners, markers, and invigilators.
  • Manages pretest day planning, test day administration and responds to client concerns and complaints ensuring compliance to IELTS standards and those of other tests including CELPIP, MCAT and TOEFL.
  • Establishes and maintains security protocols governing the storage, ordering and return of test materials from / to Cambridge ESOL in the UK in coordination with British Council.
  • Manages all fulltime and parttime staff, including recruitment, hiring, supervision, training, evaluation, coaching, and discipline.
  • Forecasts staffing, training, and certification needs to deliver IELTS, CELPIP, TOEFL and MCAT Tests to ensure testing delivery.
  • Ensures compliance of all staff involved with IELTS (Examiners, Test Day Supervisors, Receptionist, Test Day Coordinator (TDS), Invigilators) with all areas covered in the Delivery Standards Manual, the Professional Support Network (PSN) Manual, Cambridge ESOL communication, and any updates from the British Council.
  • Works closely with BC to ensure processes are efficient and effective while meeting testing security requirements.
  • Organizes offsite tests as appropriate, and on request.
  • Ensures the ordering of testing stock in numbers and in a manner prescribed by BC standards.
  • Provides all data reports required by the British Council regarding testing numbers, incidents, test sessions offered.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

What qualifications do you need for this role?

  • Fouryear Degree or equivalent from a recognized postsecondary institution related to management or related to testing and assessment (e.g., business administration or educational assessment or second language acquisition).
  • Minimum five years of experience in IELTS testing and assessment in an academic environment. Experience managing a testing facility, preferably offering highstakes language proficiency testing services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of policies and procedures relating to Assessment, Academic requirements, Admissions, Registration, college student services, etc.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to deal effectively with students and staff in complex situations.
  • Highly motivated, demonstrated ability to function in a stressful, highvolume work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgement in complex and unique situations while ensuring staff compliance with explicit standards and routines.
