Core Purpose of the Job:


Perform a variety of housekeeping tasks within a facility in accordance with company policies and operational requirements of the Project Agreement.

Wash, scrub and polish floors by utilizing auto scrubbers, burnishers, bonnet floor machines, carpet extractors, wet vacuums and power washers.

Clean over 12 foot high windows using a tucker pole and lift heavy furniture. Operate elevated work platforms / work at height as required Remove heavy garbage and operate a compactor as required.


Scope of Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Clean for bacterial control and maintain floors and stairways by methods such as dust/wet mopping and autoscrubbing with the appropriate equipment.
  • Clean carpets, mats and rugs for bacterial control by methods such as vacuuming, shampooing, brushing as required with the appropriate equipment.
  • Clean washrooms by washing and disinfecting all washroom floors, toilets, sinks, counters and mirrors, polishing metal and porcelain fixtures and replenishing toilet tissue, sanitary liners, paper towel and soap as required.
  • Clean and disinfect all horizontal surfaces such as furniture, workstations, woodwork, blinds, fixtures and fittings by dusting, damp wiping and polishing as required.
  • High dust and low dust as required to meet established standards.
  • Empty interior and exterior waste baskets and recycling bins cleaning and relining baskets, removing garbage from building and compacting as required.
  • Wash and dust areas, such as walls, windows, ceilings, air vents and ducts.
  • Clean all vertical surfaces, such as, walls, windows, doors, hardware and glass using a 6 foot ladder as required.
  • Clean and polish elevators and clean shower rooms.
  • Operate steam cleaner machine in areas as required.
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, parking areas and roadways, if required.
  • Conduct Project Cleaning as required by management including external horizontal and vertical surfaces areas such as windows using a tucker pole and power washing.
  • Transport heavy furniture and/or equipment manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts.
  • Report damaged or inoperable fixtures and furniture to the Help Desk in a timely manner.
  • Maintain housekeepingrelated equipment by cleaning, lubricating and replacing items such as filter bags and belts.
  • Prior to usage, ensure that all housekeeping equipment (i.e., autoscrubbers) is cleaned, safe and well maintained.
  • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, carts, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with facility staff and/or visitors.
  • Comply with the Company's Policies, Management Plans and Procedures.
  • Fulfill Health & Safety responsibilities by adherence to the requirements of the Company's Health & Safety Policy and Health & Safety Management Plans.
  • Support the Company's Quality Policy Statement and actively participate in the achievement of Company and personal Quality objectives
  • Undertake such other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required within the Department / Service. Significant permanent changes in duties will require agreed revisions to be made to this Job Description.
  • Adapt working schedule to match Performance Schedule as necessary

Essential Requirements:


  • Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment.
  • Ability to use auto scrubbers, burnishers and other carpet/floor cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to clean over 12 foot windows utilizing a tucker pole and lift up to 50 lb. according to Worksafe Insurance Board of Ontario guidelines.
  • Good interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Ability to communicate in English to respond to customer inquiries as required.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and solve problems independently.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
  • Ability to to pass the required Security Clearance Check (CPIC)
  • Building Service Worker (BSW) designation an asset
