Primary Role


The Catering Operations Manager, Coast Social Enterprise Foundation, in collaboration with the Culinary Training Program Manager, shares responsibilities for the overall execution of the Coast Foundation Society's (CSF)Culinary Training and Employment Program and the overall management duties for the Coast Social Enterprise Foundation's Social Crust Café & Catering.

Program responsibilities includes supervision of youth trainees,, youth practicum placement and assessments and creating/developing external employment partnership opportunities for youth clients.

The Catering Operations Manager, is also responsible for overseeing and growing the Social Crust catering operations, primarily improving catering systems and efficiencies, as well as supporting the Culinary Training Program Manager in overseeing Social Crust café operations in their absence.

In collaboration with the Culinary Training Program Manager, this role will also be responsible for branding and marketing aspects of the Culinary Training and Employment Program and Social Crust Café & Catering as well as social media accounts.

Reporting

This role reports to the Director of Community Services.

Scope


This is a professional role responsible for recommendations and decisions regarding students/clients, overall program management for
the Culinary Training and Employment Program and overall business operations for CSEF Social Crust Café & Catering.

This role shares responsibilities for managing the CFS program expense budget and CSEF Social Crust business budget, and provides leadership to the program team and Social Crust Café & Catering employees.


This role has a varied and complex workload, and must balance reactive and proactive responsibilities to support clients, maintain and further develop the program, and grow the catering business.

Fundamental Principles

  • Ensures that responsibilities are managed and operated in accordance with Coast's Mission, Vision, Values, Policies and Procedures.

Leadership

  • Leads and comanages the staff, including:
  • Monitors performance: completes probationary and regular annual performance reviews, discusses performance concerns and develops employee action plans when required
  • Interprets and ensures compliance with the Collective Agreement. Participates in the grievance process as a management team representative as required
  • Initiates progressive discipline up to and including suspension and termination of employment. Ensures appropriate documentation is prepared
  • Approves employee vacation and other time away from work, and completes or ensures payroll and scheduling are completed in a timely manner
  • Establishes a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with appropriate legislation
  • Works collaboratively across departments and communicates proactively with other leaders to ensure effective relationships, program linkages, and consistency within the organization

Program Management

  • Identifies, assesses and informs the Director of Community Services of internal and external issues that affect this program.
  • Shared management responsibilities for overseeing the development and execution of all program processes and procedures, including student recruitment, selection/intake, assessment, practicum placement and workplace training Social Crust Café & Catering or external), and individual youth development plans. Monitors and assesses processes and procedures, and makes recommendations for changes.
  • Works directly with Director of Community Services, the CFS finance team and CSEF accounting to prepare the
    Social Crust Café annual operating budget and CSEF annual operating business budget, respectively, and manages expenditures in accordance with the approved budget and organizational financial procedures; approves expenditures within the authority delegated
  • Oversees any required reporting and tracking for program metrics, performance measures, fund reporting, business financials, etc.

  • Ensures the confidentiality of all employee and client information.

Training Delivery and Student Support

  • Provides leadership and support to program staff in executing student cohort training and work experience training. This includes supporting program staff to monitor and manage youth attendance and participation, maintain awareness of mental health stability and engaging appropriate supports and responding to changes, and managing cohort dynamic.
  • Together with the Culinary Training Program Manager, establish the flow of students for work experience periods and to ensure proper support of students while in work experience terms; provides recommendations on which students will be most successful in transitioning to longerterm roles for both internal and external work placement opportunities
