Function:


Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the HR Business Partner (HRBP) will collaborate with stakeholders to achieve results related to the Zoo's strategic plan, to ensure we live our Four Cares Our Animals, Our Guests, Our People and Our Community.


As an HRBP you will be responsible for a client group(s) within the Zoo and your duties will include but are not limited to: HR planning, labour and employee relations, HR advising and coaching talent development, HR communications, work force planning, change management, recruitment, and employee engagement.

  • Identifies scalable solutions to drive a more effective execution on the client groups strategy by leveraging talent more effectively

  • Core Role Responsibilities_
  • Fosters positive partnerships with Zoo leadership and Zoo employees and advise on Human Resources and employeerelated issues to achieve desired results.
  • Builds effective working relationships with client groups, integrates business plans into HR processes, analyses and assesses client requirements and supports HR initiatives within plans to promote organizational success across the different groups.
  • Builds and sustains highly collaborative relationships with CUPE stakeholders.
  • Advises, consults, and attends meetings as needed on issues related to employee and labour relations including performance management, disciplinary matters, grievances, and attendance management.
  • Provides specialist advice, guidance and support to the Client Groups in the interpretation, and administration of Collective Agreements, along with changes to them. Advises on the handling of grievances, mediation, and arbitration, and will assist/participate in them.
  • Conducts HR related investigations, including preparation of the resulting reports and documentation, and communication of the results as appropriate.
  • Identifies leading trends and best practices for human resources and supports change within the department and organization.
  • Supports human resources programs and activities and contribute to the ongoing development of the human resources team and strategy.
  • Focuses on continuously improving employee engagement.
  • Coaches and mentors in a manner that aligns with and progress of Zoo culture and the optimal employee experience.
  • Engages in management meetings and advises proactively on strategy, policy, programs and projects.
  • Ensures that legislative, regulatory, policy, and collective agreement compliance is achieved.
  • Coordinates activities and communications related to Human Resources initiatives.
  • Recruitment & Other Duties_
  • Conducts full cycle recruitment for unionized and exempt positions within the designated client groups.
  • Assists in the maintenance and management of the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) component of the HRIS, including the integrity of the information. Prepares reports as needed.
  • Provide a wide range of strategic and operational support for a range of projects and initiatives including those related to employee engagement, wellness, culture, and EDI (Equity, Diversity & Inclusion).
  • Assists with the preparation and delivery of training programs.
  • Contributes and participates through actions and behaviours a positive attitude towards workplace Health, Safety and Wellness including psychological safety and wellbeing.
  • Understands and is committed to working to ensure our Zoo continues to exceed Association of Zoos and Aquariums Accreditation Standards (AZA) in daytoday work including safety, conservation, education, and general operations.
  • Knows and applies best practices in EDI strategies, systems and policies.
  • Assists guests onsite as required and ensures excellent customer service is provided by Zoo staff.
