Reporting to the Supervisor, Rail Operations the Analyst, Coal Logistics Ops is responsible for accumulating and reporting KPI's related to the rail & port logistics of metallurgical coal.

This entry level position will include learning the roles of Rail and Port Coordinator to cover absences.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures. Foster and improve risk identification while in the field.
  • Develop and act upon relevant KPIs and scorecards for key suppliers and for use by internal customer groups, including compilation of KPIs for operational and monthly reporting.
  • Participate in preparing reports covering Teck's rail & port interface with CPKC, CN, BNSF, CSS, Blue Water Rail, Neptune, Westshore, Trigon, Thunder Bay and CCBH.
  • Perform project and analytical studies as assigned.
  • Support internal customer groups in monitoring Teck product shipments, ensuring external customer needs are met.
  • Support digital optimization model outputs for rail loading to meet vessel requirements.
  • Analyze and oversee rail exception charges through effective monitoring of terminal and rail performance, validating rail invoices on a timely basis, and identifying root causes.
  • Contribute to the development of analytics that will help to achieve the company's mission and core objectives.
  • Other responsibilities as required or as assigned.
  • Based in Vancouver, this position may occasionally travel to the BC Interior for data validation.

Key Competencies:


  • Postsecondary education or qualification in Transportation & Logistics management.
  • 13 years of relevant experience in Logistics and Transportation management in an industrial context with familiarity with rail and ocean transportation.
  • Understanding of mine operations as they pertain to logistics, rail network, port operations, quality control and inventory tracking.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the metallurgical coal market and its participants.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decisionmaking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate independently and/or as part of a team as required to achieve optimal results.
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Suite of programs particularly Excel.
