This is done while focusing on the client's needs as well as meeting the required performance and aesthetics.


Position Overview:
We are currently looking for a Purchasing Agent to join our dynamic team.

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to the All Parts List 'APL' and Material Takeoff's (MTO); clarifying unclear items; recommending alternatives;
  • Process purchase requisitions / orders within purchasing authority;
  • Forward available inventory items by verifying stock; scheduling, and delivery;
  • Prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtain recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtain approval from internal requisitioning department/Project Manager;
  • Obtain purchased items by forwarding orders to suppliers; monitoring and expediting orders;
  • Verify receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves shipments in error with suppliers;
  • Reconcile or resolve value discrepancies;
  • Deal with suppliers on quality issues and ensures replacement product arrives as quickly as possible;
  • Keep in constant contact with the Director of Production & Procurement and include on any transmittals;
  • Authorize payment for purchases by forwarding receiving documentation;
  • Keep information accessible by sorting and filing documents digitally;
  • Provide purchasing plan and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Follow up with suppliers ensuring the dates required are met;
  • Invite, assess, and award/recommend supplier tenders, bids, quotations, and proposals;
  • Establish and negotiate contract terms and conditions, and maintain supplier relationships;
  • Prepare and maintain purchasing records, reports and price lists;
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to determine procurement needs, quality, and delivery requirements;
  • Assist in the development of specifications for equipment, materials and services to be purchased;
  • Administer contract performance, including delivery, receipt, warranty, damages and insurance;
  • Comply with and maintain knowledge of applicable rules, legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices;
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and management;
  • Authorization to purchase smaller misc. items, gaskets, fasteners, etc.;
  • Authorization to purchase larger purchases such as glass*, extrusion*, other infills*, finish* and any other item that is not purchased by senior purchasing agent;
  • Understand company policies and procedures;
  • Ensure proper cost code is being applied verification with PM is required;
  • Keep in contact with the cost sheets and ensure that items are at or under budget; any discrepancies be communicated with PM;
  • Assist the plant with engineering/supplier issues; and
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Director of Production & Procurement

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: College diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management
  • Previous experience in the glazing/curtainwall industry an asset.
  • 35 years' experience in purchasing, procurement or supply chain/inventory management

Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate to all project stakeholders on general and technical information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and in developing relationships with clients and staff
  • Create computer spreadsheets and reports
  • Able to effectively multitask multiple stakeholders
  • Very comfortable interacting with direct suppliers and ALL internal departments, including site.
  • Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal, problemsolving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Demonstrates organizational skills, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner in a fastpaced environment
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of options in some situations
  • Ability to take on continuous improvement projects within the department
Working Conditions

  • Work may involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises;
  • On site work environment involves some exposure to hazards of physical risks that require knowledge of and adherence to basic safety procedures and precautions;
  • Work environment requires wearing PPE in certain locations; and
  • Flexible to work overtime must be approved in advance.
