Reporting to the Estimator, the Junior Estimator is a highly motivated self starter who will have the opportunity to support the Estimating Team with pursuing and bidding new work under the mentorship of the Estimator and Operations Manager.


Key Responsibilities
-
Bid Administration

  • Assists with pursuing various commercial projects including tenant fitups, new builds and additions, design builds, repairs and renovations, and construction management.
  • Investigates client requests for quotations to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Creates bid lists that fit scope of job, ensuring that we have the right subs for the project.
  • Supports preparation of subcontractor bid packages.
  • Assists with transmitting addenda, clarifications, and other bid information to subcontractors.
  • Ensures that we have proper coverage from subcontractors on bid day.
  • Assists in submitting bids and budgets by the bid deadline.
  • Manages Bid Board.
  • Uploads all drawings, addendums, specs and relevant information to the Plans Room on the company website.
  • Prints relevant drawings and specs
  • Attends and/or organizes all job showings and site meetings and develops meeting minutes.
  • Obtains all bonding and insurances.
  • Reviews Buy & Sell, Merx, Ottawa City Approvals, etc. daily to find new leads.
  • Supports the thorough review of bid requirements and asks followup questions for every bid.
  • Assists with developing RFI's and clarifications.
  • Sources "nontypical" items during the tender period and contacts subcontractors on closing day.
  • Assists with the preparation and submission of RFP's.
  • Participates in tender closing.

Project Turnover

  • Assists with proper turnover of bid documents and sub information to Project Management in a timely manner.
  • Reviews drawings with Project Manager and highlights areas of concern.
  • Reviews job costs with Project Manager.
  • Assists with the preparation of project start up documents, closeout documents and O&M manuals.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of the estimating process and interaction with other disciplines within the company.
  • Experience in reading and understanding construction drawings, blueprints and specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.
  • Organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and multitask/service orientated.
  • Thrive in a fast pacedenvironment.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
  • Attention to detail, mathematical, analytical skills and accuracy.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Service orientation and ability to work effectively with a team environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
