Position Summary
Health Research BC is a relatively small organization. We take a team-based approach to achieving success across all communications disciplines.

Coordinators are expected to support multiple areas of practice and this role will focus on
communications planning and implementation, and communications department administration.

The Manager, Communications provides strategic oversight for all three areas and will assign priorities to ensure internal client and external facing priorities are achieved.


The Coordinator is part of a communications team that plays a critical role in contributing to and implementing communications initiatives and brand storytelling to position Michael Smith Health Research BC as a leader in BC's life sciences sector.

They will support all communications and provide administrative solutions that help accomplish the communications team's goals and objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Communications planning and implementation

  • Implements communications strategies for new portfolios of work that align to Health Research BC's strategy. This includes and creating communications collateral such as powerpoints, reports and newsletter copy.
  • Supports updates to the website, including publishing content and keeping webpages up to date.
  • Ensures equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and Indigenous cultural safety are represented in all materials.
  • Participates in departmental strategic and project planning, working collaboratively with all members of the communications team, and other staff, as appropriate.
  • Supports event planning as needed.
  • Provides graphic design work on small projects if required.

Department administration

  • Monitors and tracks departmental budget.
  • Maintains and updates the communications team's annual strategies and quarterly progress reports.
  • Is the main point of contact for the customer relationship management system (CRM) on behalf of the communications team. Maintains communications' contacts and records in the CRM.
  • Administers the team's digital filing system and contributes to the successful transition from a server to a cloudbased system.
  • Maintains Health Research BC's organizationwide shared image.

Requirements:


  • A postsecondary degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related
  • Two to three years' experience in a communications
  • Work experience in a research, notforprofit or health care setting an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a demonstrated ability to write in a variety of styles for a range of audiences. Superior editing and proofreading skills, with an impeccable eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute communications plans, including delivering on a variety of tactics.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver content accurately and on time during periods of high workload.
  • Working knowledge of the health research system in BC.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion when handling sensitive and/or confidential matters
  • Strong administrative skills, including tracking projects from start to finish.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Adobe C
