***Reporting to the Associate Dean, Human Services and Community Safety, the incumbent develops and delivers courses in the Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program. Courses may be scheduled and delivered during the day or evening.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering the Career Preparation course in the Pre-Service Firefighter program
  • Deliver courses inperson
  • Developing and delivering appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives
  • Incorporating a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
  • Evaluating student progress / achievement
  • Participating in program and college activities as required
  • Participating in program revision and renewal activities as required
  • Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Level One required. NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Level Two would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in the fire service
  • Knowledge and experience in the fire service hiring process including, but not limited to, aptitude testing, physical testing, skills/competency testing (OFAI, Brock Fitness Test), and interviews.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, building portfolios, etc.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problemsolving skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in their students
  • Experience managing change and leading innovation
  • A commitment to lifelong learning
  • Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office Suite
  • Computer literacy with a Learning Management System / Web Delivery Software (i.e. Blackboard) and a Student Information System would be considered an asset
  • Teaching and Training Adults certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset
