The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System.

We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta's interconnected power grid and also facilitate Alberta's competitive wholesale electricity market.

Job Description:


Key accountabilities Provide recommendations on changes to the environment to further "harden" core systems as part of the mitigation strategy.- Actively monitors and guides designers and developers to ensure designs are well understood and implemented correctly. Provide code review for 3rd party developed code prior to adoption and implementation.- Implement custom code to facilitate system maintenance or business requirements- Provide support where needed to troubleshoot and fix development and production issues.- Assist with the development of site-based procedures for effective real-time system operation, integrity, availability, utilization, data backup, and disaster recovery.- Work closely with technical and non-technical resources to clarify and refine business requirements.

In consultation and collaboration with the senior engineers, provide technical solutions and recommendations to EMS Systems Manager- Input into scheduling and costing, and when applicable, provides technical support to coworkers, management, developers, consultants, and vendors as required

This includes defining, coordinating and executing the development, testing, and implementation of the technical solution, and validating the final product satisfies the defined requirements.

  • The work environment is a hybrid structure with three days onsite for team collaboration. We also have a flexible workplace practice to support life and personal needs. There may be some weeks that require more onsite presence during key business or operations events. The worksite for this role requires the ability to travel to a location in NW Calgary that is not accessible by public transit.

You bring:

  • A diploma in Computer Engineering Technology (CNT) or equivalent from an accredited college
  • A professional designation with the Association of Science & Engineering technology professionals of Alberta (ASET) or equivalent
  • At least five years of experience in
  • Programming in C/C++, Perl and Python
  • Control systems including EMS, remote thermal units
  • System integration and management
