The Salvation Army Ottawa Grace Manor is a licensed Long-Term Care facility built on care, dignity and respect for all.

Ottawa Grace Manor has 5 Resident Home Areas including one secure home area. Home areas are either 25 or 26 beds on each, for a total of 128 residents. Each home area is self-contained with its own dining room, lounge area, nursing station, laundry room, and activity room.


Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Director of Care, the Infection Prevention and Control Supervisor role is one that ensures infection prevention and control surveillance is in place and evaluates and audits for compliance for the health and safety of the residents, staff and families.

This position ensures all staff are held accountable to required IPAC processes and standards, as mandated by The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and these standards monitored, analyzed and evaluated on an ongoing basis.


  • Reviews, analyze and track surveillance data, vaccination data, swabbing data
  • Supports and promotes staff compliance with policies, public health, best practices and guidance to administration, committees, staff, essential care givers, families and residents regarding infection prevention and control
  • Conduct and maintains the delivery of the Home's IPAC training program for all staff, caregivers, volunteers, visitors and residents
  • Coordinates the Home's vaccine program, including ordering, storage, administration of vaccine and reporting of data to Ottawa Public Health
  • Coordinates mask fit testing for all staff and essential visitors as per regulations
  • Ensures the Homes cleaning and disinfecting protocols are in place and followed
  • Under the direction of and in collaboration with the DOC, maintains the Homes pandemic plan
  • Coordinates the infection prevention and control program, including surveillance, education, consultation and improvement of practice to ensure optimum infection control practices are in place
  • Under the guidance of the DOC, collaborates with the outbreak management team at the outset of an outbreak and regularly throughout an outbreak
  • Ensures all IPAC regulations required under the Long Term Act are met and maintained
  • Reviewing daily and monthly screening results to determine whether action is required

Qualifications:


  • BScN or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience creating and maintaining a pandemic/ emergency plans
  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Must have current certification in infection control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology or enrollment in an appropriate course on track for completion within 2 years
  • 5+ Years experience required at minimum for this position
  • Experience in Long Term Care or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience an asset.
  • Sound clinical judgement, tact, and personal ability to work cooperatively and effectively with residents, family members, physicians, volunteers and coworkers as a member of an Interdisciplinary Care Team.
  • Demonstrated leadership in promoting a residentcentered approach to care.
  • Self motivated ability to work, carry out responsibilities with minimum direction, and to use good judgement in making appropriate decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, verbal and written.
  • Ability to attend work and commitment to residents.

Hours of work:


  • Required to work various shifts including evenings, overnights and weekends based on needs of the home.

Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License (required)
  • CPR/ First Aid (required)
