We are recruiting for a
SERVICE COORDINATOR,9-8-8 and Here 24/7

Contract part-time position until July 31, 2024 (with possibility of extension). The Service Coordinator, 9-8-8 and HERE 24/7 works one scheduled 6-hour shift per week,
Mondays 1am to 7am, and must be available to pick up to a maximum of 18 total hours per week (determined by service coverage needs) based at 80 Waterloo Ave, Guelph.

Contract full-time position until July 31, hours per week
  • Thursday to Saturday 7pm to 7am plus one (1) additional shift per month) based at 80 Waterloo Ave, Guelph.

All above opportunities are currently a hybrid model. Presently all shifts worked during the hours of 7am to 12am are on-site and weekends and overnight shifts are worked remotely. We do anticipate shifting to fully on site model and the ability to work a hybrid schedule is based upon service needs and the Agency retains the right to amend or change schedules, including hybrid work arrangements.


In a step toward prioritizing mental health support, Canada is launching its nationwide crisis hotline, 9-8-8, on November 30, 2023.

This will provide a free texting or calling service for Canadians struggling with mental health challenges.

The 9-8-8 Crisis Coordinator will respond, assess and intervene to effectively support individuals experiencing crisis in Waterloo Wellington (and Nationwide as needed).


Reporting to the Team Lead, 9-8-8, this position will primarily respond to individuals in crisis who are calling and texting the national 9-8-8 suicide helpline and may be experiencing symptoms of mental illness and addiction.

A secondary responsibility will include back-up coverage to the broader HERE 24/7 service area.

This entails providing "front door" services to our addictions and mental health system including intake, referral, crisis functions, as well as brief support to individuals who are waiting for ongoing service.

Service Coordinators are part of a large team serving Waterloo and Wellington that work within smaller geographically based hubs to respond to and meet local service needs.

Successful incumbents may need to go mobile as necessary based on the needs of the person and risk issues.


Qualifications:

  • Degree/diploma in psychology, social work, or relevant health or social science field
  • Three or more years of related experience
  • Welldeveloped intake, referral, crisis assessment, intervention and brief support skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a team environment and also independently
  • Knowledge of a broad range of mental health, addiction and concurrent issues
  • Knowledge of our system's mental health and addiction supports and resources
  • Demonstrated understanding of multicultural communities and values diversity
  • Appreciation and demonstration of ameliorating systemic racism within social services.
  • Good organizational, communication, interpersonal and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a busy interdisciplinary setting and with formal and informal community resources
  • Welldeveloped knowledge base of the various service systems within the catchment area
  • Demonstrated belief in the values and philosophy of CMHA WW
  • Demonstrated sound clinical and practical judgement
  • The ability to work a rotating schedule
