Your responsibilities will include:


  • Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations. Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts.
  • Recording detailed transactions for many accounts including payroll and analyzing information to identify spending trends and recommend cost saving measures. Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives. Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities.
  • Identifying and resolving individual data anomalies and discrepancies and verifying the accuracy and completeness of information. Entering salary and /or personnel information in HRIS.
  • Processing and monitoring payroll and accounts receivable and payables according to the University Guide to Payroll and Financial Management.
  • Conducting salary and benefit cost analysis and generating financial reports.
  • Keeping wellinformed on purchasing and/or procurement policies and procedures. Verifying that provisions of applicable collective agreements and/or policies are applied appropriately.
  • Processing and verifying that HRIS transactions are processed according to applicable policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in business and/or accounting or an or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent and related financial and administrative experience related to overseeing and monitoring research grants and contracts, preferably in an University environment.
  • Demonstrated work experience in aspects of accounting up to and including payroll, monitoring accounts, forecasting, account reconciliation and preparation of financial statements.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures.
  • Well developed financial forecasting analysis experience.
  • Proven experience with compiling, investigating and analyzing financial information as well as making recommendations based on outcome of analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in processing and monitoring payroll and accounts receivable and payables.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in using MS Office, with advanced skills in MS Excel
  • Advanced experience with the University's Administrative Management Systems (FIS, DIS, RIS and HRIS) or other similar systems
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
