What You Will Get To Do


Reporting to the Supervisor(s) of Operations (Roads/Traffic), and under the direction of the Working Foreperson(s), the Road Patrolperson position is responsible for scheduled inspections of all municipal highways under the Town's jurisdiction.


As such, the incumbent is responsible for:
- identifying and accurately reporting all hazardous situations and/or road deficiencies and conditions, in accordance to the Minimum Maintenance Standards (summer and winter);
- securing and repairing identified deficiencies including minor ploughing and/or sand/salt as well as dispatching to the appropriate operational division for the necessary attention and/or repair;
- general traffic control for both stationary and rolling road repair operations;
- picking up litter, garbage and/or road debris;
- ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;
- providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public, emergency services, agencies and/or other members of staff in a courteous manner; and,
- other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • As the successful applicant, you are:
  • safety conscious individual, with a demonstrated ability to adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- a detail oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to visually identify and accurately report hazardous road conditions;
- an organized individual with a demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize road deficiencies while making appropriate decisions in accordance with related by-laws and/or policies/guidelines such as the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Highways and/or the Highway Traffic Act;
- well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills to appropriately respond to resident concerns and establish positive working relationships with all staff; and,
- a collaborative team member, with the ability to work independently and under mínimal supervision.

What You Bring To Our Team

  • As the successful applicant, you must possess:
  • community college and/or trade school courses in carpentry, cement work or a related discipline;
- three (3) years directly related work experience with road patrolling and inspections;

  • Winter Maintenance Operations training for patrollers through Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA);
- thorough understanding and training in the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 and WHMIS;
- current certification in C.P.R. (Level A) and Emergency First Aid;
- demonstrated working knowledge (basic
