Reporting to the Site Administrator, the Educator is accountable for all aspects of staff education including planning, delivering and evaluating staff education programs provided within the Covenant Care site.

The Educator works collaboratively with the Site Administrator, Nurse Practitioner, Resident Care Manager and other site staff, to provide orientation, annual education, mandatory education and ongoing training to ensure that staff have the skills required to deliver safe effective and efficient person centered care to the residents.

The Educator supports the Resident Care Manager in maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff. The Educator also acts as a role model and ambassador for the mission, vision and values of Covenant Care.

The Educator plans, delivers and evaluates the Covenant Care General Orientation Program for all newly hired staff in order to assist these staff in assuming their responsibilities as members of the Covenant Care Team.


This includes but is not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the Orientation Program meets current Alberta Health Continuing Care Health Service Standards (CCHSS), Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Standards as well as Accreditation Canada Standards.
  • Ensuring that all online, inclass and hands on components of the General Orientation Program are completed within the appropriate timeframe and are signed off appropriately.
  • Ensuring that all Buddy Shifts are scheduled and completed within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Ensuring that all staff have the required skills to provide safe, effective and efficient person centered care and services upon completion of their orientation.
  • Ensuring that all staff successfully complete the orientation program by providing coaching as necessary.
  • Ensuring that all required General Orientation documentation is collected, signed, filed and tracked as per Organizational requirements.
  • Ensuring that the effectiveness of the General Orientation program is regularly reviewed from a organizational and individual perspective on a regular basis.

Key Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong organization and leadership skills in order to be able to develop and implement efficient and effective programs, while at the same time assessing staff performance.
  • Computer and audiovisual skills and knowledge.
  • Effective verbal skills and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to research and review the most up to date clinical information, best practices and clinical practice guidelines and to use this information to improve education programs provided in the site.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work demands.
  • Organised, flexible, selfmotivated and capable of working independently as well as within the team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of personal information of staff members and residents.
  • Ability to use excellent professional judgement and to act as a mentor, leader and role model to all staff.
  • Interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective interactions and relationships with peers, supervisors, managers, AHS partners, residents, families, physicians, volunteers and all other stakeholders
